Since when is lighting in a house motion sensored? Bug?

I noticed these awesome paintings of loading screens in the game, and I wanted to use these to make murals on the walls in Velothie reverie.
To really show them off, I added a light source, because dark elf houses are really dark.

Then I am having this weird phenomenon, which I didn't notice before this last patch. When I'm in the vicinity of a light source it gives off light, when I'm walking away, the light goes out (though the fire animation remains), as if it is on a motion sensor that only switches on when you're near. I dunno, doesn't seem how light really works. :)

When I'm near:

When I've been slowly backing away:

I would like to see these fixed, as these house are dark enough. I would actually prefer to see the light spread out a bit more, as you need to add a lot of light sources to make your house feel like a home, instead of an ancient Nord crypt. :P

EDIT: This bug only affects some houses. That is why I didn't experience it (the house I was decorating wasn't affected, but most are).

    Try this just for testing:

Pull the Braziers back from the wall to see if the lighting still extends to the wall as you approach, first the Braziers, then the wall itself (so you would be going past the Braziers in that one) Maybe try different distances to see.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Good point. The lighting behaves differently close to walls. Sometimes, it will go "into" the wall and not actually illuminate it.

The farther one is away from objects the less that is displayed though in a house, none is large enough that the lights effects should be diminished.

    You mean like this?

I've now placed them further away from the wall, my character is now near the edge of the room and you notice how they're not giving light.

When I move closer, they will light up:

When I move past them, I still have light:

It still seems weird to me. It shouldn't matter where I place the light source. In fact, shouldn't the lit area seem even brighter, when you're standing in the dark, out of the light?

Zoomed out to give a better view:

At this distance they still give off light:
    Screenshot_20170124_225727.png

    and now they don't:

In the meantime, night has turned to day, so I've less contrast in this picture.

This helps them figure out if it is "proximity triggered" (kind of like Motion)

I wonder how far back you could pull them before the wall no longer gets lit up....

Lighting in games is weird in that fixtures and point sources of light are two different things. They can be combined, but there are really separate elements, at least in the mods I have made for previous Bethesda games.

Heh, just checking now the other room again, and just noticed that one of my two paintings is gone. It ain't in my inventory, nor in my retrievables. it's called the painting of the bridge.

I would have to check that again when it's dark, as the window now produces its own light.
