Giving Housing Utility

There have been many posts requesting for utility to be added to houses in the upcoming patch. I’d like to add a few requests myself and ask what others would like to see in future updates of the game.

1.) Add attunable mundus stones. – If you are switching often between character set ups, roles, or go from PVE to PVP often it can be a inconvenient to ride to the mundus stones you need. I find it to be an unnecessary hassle that could be eliminated with housing. (I think it would be really cool when there are more trials you could get trial specific fragments at the end of hard mode runs, for example you get mage from AA, serpent from VO and so forth.)

2.) Add a stable master – mansions have stables that would be lore friendly to having a stable master, additionally this could provide further incentive and reward for purchasing a 3.75 million gold house.

3.) Add writ boards – this could come in the form of a pile of mail that shows up at your door every day or in the case of large houses/mansions, on a dedicated board by the gate. (This would give reason for crafting stations in your house and writs are already not a very social aspect of the game.)

4.) Add guild writ boards – this would require some extra coding and research, but it would be cool if guild masters were allowed to place one guild writ board. Guildies would then be able to interact with the board and request items that fellow guild mates could make and leave a tip. Guild members would be able to accept these writs and have a set period of time to make them before they return to the board (say one hour). After completing the writ they return to the board and the item is mailed.

A couple items that have limited actual utility but I think would really add to the atmosphere of housing:

6.) Similar to my previous guild writ board, allow a guild master to place a board with the MOTD on it. (This one is just for atmosphere.)

7.) Allow players to have a small number of signs that can be placed in their houses, this would allow home owners to give directions/information to visitors to the houses.

Great ideas. My favourite are numbers 2 and 3, a stable-master and a place to collect daily quests would allow us to make a house into an actual base of operations.

We need fully functional assistants as well!!!
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.

    1 - Absolutely.

2 - Stablehands should be available for every house where you can stable a pet not just mansions.

3 - Writ mail drops - yes yes yes

    but to add another -

    EDIT for better list
    • Storage - nuff said
    • Stable hand - obvious - riding lessons
    • Prospect/Recruit - Eager rookie tied to NPC" guild class of "dailies" (undaunted delves and pledges, mages dungeons and consumable writs, fighters dolmens and equip writs, TG dailies inc WB/delves, DB dailies inc Wb/delves) that can serve as start-up and turn-in right there in the house.
    • Repair Station - Can do you own gear repair for gold.
    • Courier - Guild bank and guild store access for your guilds.
    • Shrines - functional respec shrines and marriage shrines
    • Guild merchant - Tied to one guild store cluster like say Windhelm or Mournhold - allows you to buy from them as if you were there - accessing each vendor in turn.
    • Wardrobe/Gear Stands - place an entire gear setup plus potions and food onto stand and be able to swap into/out of it immediately while in home. Might include skills slotted setup - but not respec.
    • Functioning Node: Garden or Dig or Animal Pens or Woods or Pond/Fishing hole or Rune Cluster - basically a daily "hireling" type function

i dont want a tactical benefit or even an experience one but let me use the house to save playtime on the "bookkeeping" by not having to travel for the many hundredth time to get my daily pledge from someone - let me get it at home and then have togo to the delve/dungeon/boss etc.

The attunable mundus and writ boards would be awesome! I can't really justify a house without those (mundus are less important, but great addition anyway).

I'd also add to make assistants fully functional inside the house.

The other ones would mean a whole new system created in the game so I'd be happy with the simpler ones (1, 2, 3 and the functional assistants).

i suspect that part of the reason for their not putting many of these functionality things in, is due to not wanting the cities to be vacant because everyone just goes to their houses to do things (i wouldn't mind the lack of functionality so much if the cost wasn't so mind blowing and there was more fun stuff to do with them-ie: mannequins, displaying trophies etc)

I believe this patch is more about getting housing out in the first place. Extra utility will likely be added later. As for the proposed changes:

1.) Add attunable mundus stones. – Love the idea. Not just for the utility, but also because it would be cool to have a mundus stone sitting in your garden. :)

2.) Add a stable master – Also a good idea. Makes a convenient place to do your daily riding training.

3.) Add writ boards – Meh. I usually pick them up in Craglorn anyway, since that's where all my turn in's are.

4.) Add guild writ boards – Maybe when actual guild halls become a thing.

7.) Allow players to have a small number of signs that can be placed in their houses - There are already signs for crafting skills.

But they already are, except for a few. And those cities are overwhelmed with people lingering in front of the banker. I suspect that the guild traders will keep people in the cities, but features to keep people standing around doing nothing but lagging up the zone are good. Have you been to Rawl'kha or Belkarth bank at primetime. Holy fps batman. It'd be nice if a lot of those people could be doing their routine business in their private instanced house.
