Does anybody know if ZOS even have firewalls?

A DDOS isn't something that's stopped by a firewall. It's not like typical malware or anything like that. It's done in many ways, but one of the most common is thousands of bots posing as legit users, all trying to login at the same time, and clogging the server. That's not something a firewall can protect against.

There's basically nothing they can do if it's a DDoS attack. They can try offloading all the incoming junk data to a dummy server, but that only goes so far.

It's not just ESO. The whole USA west of the Rockies is getting hammered right now.

ZOS might not even have a problem as they are east coast. It's just everything in between that's having "technical difficulties."

I'm just really curious if this sudden Ddos attacks on Zos is related to Zenimax suing Facebook..???

Almost all big websites and games get hit by ddos each day, yet they manage to avoid keep going down like this game does.

BLizzard and EA-Bioaware were both under DDOS attack in August 2016 and they could do nothing. I was playing starwars at this time and we had almost 24 hours of game as the login was shut down by the ddos

So no, unfortunatly there is nothing they can do.Each time they will find a way to stop the DDOS, the hacker will also find a new way to go on ....

The only dream possible is to get the whole hacking team in jail for long long years .... but we are not in a movie unfortunatly .....

Unfortunately we live in a world where any John Doe can get a simple program that carries out the attack for them, and the victim can't do much of anything besides try and weather the storm and or somehow aid authorities in tracking down the source. I'm no tech genius but at least I know enough to not blame ZOS for this.

Scope is to be considered, as attacks vary in scale and effectiveness. However beyond that, no it's not the case that it is happening everyday with other games and websites. As a hacker or group of hackers, you're not likely to favor being caught, and continuely attacking the same target/s without taking time to rearrange your methods of hiding your identity is going to wind up with you being caught.

Likely ESO issues has more to do with poor server and network infrastructure rather than outside interference via constant
    DDOS.

There's been numerous times during the last few days where I am affected (Arizona, West) and my friends I'm actively grouped with on the east coast are not.

Even last night when nearly everyone was lagged out, my buddy in Australia was unaffected.

Internet routing across the nation and across the world can be affected by many things. We know ZOS was either directly targeted or indirectly affected by DDoS over the weekend and these continued problems are exactly the same.

:D Are you trying to tell me they just dont need to run a virus check :D. In all seriousness i've seen ddos attacks have serious effects on other games before. The last game I played had horrible lag for two months before the attack was resolved. I dont understand why people make posts when they have no clue whats going on. Get that firewall up! Its not hardened ward..

Cmon, if you really dont understand running servers or ddos attacks you need to be quiet. I dont fully understand it myself, so I sit back and listen to people who know more than me. Its speculation as well because we are not zos.....

I guarentee zos has people trying to figure it out. But a best solution might not be instant. Someone could have spent a lot of time figuring out how to most effectively mess with them. So, be patient. I know you think you are at mcdonalds and you want you 3 cheeseburgers and milkshakes but you [snip] need to wait.

Which sucks because instead of working on game content, they have to deal with this and other b.s.

I remember sitting in a CCP Security presentation at EVE Fanfest once where CCP explained how they stop DDoS attacks against the EVE cluster. Pretty interesting stuff (beyond my understandings).

So it's possible for them to put something in place, I guess it just depends on their IT people and the money ZOS is willing to invest in their systems and defences.

Here's the plan. I, and all the other magicka DKs will stand in a circle around the ESO servers. Then we'll cast blockade of fire repeatedly until the DDoS attacks stop.

Zenimax Online Studios (a subsidiary of Zeni Media mentioned above) is in Maryland.

The datacenter where the game is actually hosted (in NA) is in Texas, unless something is changed. I believe the login servers and patch servers are in Baltimore.

    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6421/kw/megaserver/session/L3RpbWUvMTQyODkzMDg1MC9zaWQvTmdEOTJNam0=

Regardless of where they are located, internet routing generally takes the fastest path between two points, which geographically might not make sense at all, but any service interruptions along the route can cause issues elsewhere.

Have a look at this from just a couple minutes ago:
    C0Fn5SQ.png

There's a lot of internet attacks going on, and heavily where they are located and still bad where the data center is. ZOS can't stop this and even if they aren't the actual target, depending on what services ARE the target, it can cause interruptions.

Also if you want to watch something scary about internet attacks, watch this real time map for a little bit: http://map.norsecorp.com/#/

    What does this all mean?

If you're going to throw blame around and you think ZOS should be included in that, just be quiet.

What they need to do is tweak their PRAM and reglaze the sub routine.

Then have to people on the same keyboard to stop the hacking DDoS attacks....

Yeah we can all act like it's all of a sudden ddos attacks and not just gross neglect of the server over the years that's progressively gotten worse to lead us to the point were at now. I wonder if the servers will continue to deteriorate till its just basically unplayable..
