I think penetration should he percentage based

Ok so hear me out. I have always been under the impression that the purpose of penetration was to take down tankier targets and be less effective vs squishy target however in eso this definetly isnt the case.

If you have 5k penetration and attack a player with 6k resistances its as if they have 1k resitances and if you attack a player who has 20k resistances its as if they have 15k resistances.

This means that penetration is more or less being used to just boost your overall damage rather than penetrate through high resistances.

I think the solution to this is to make penetration percentage based but have high percentages, things like 30% penetration on sharpened but this is only active when in pvp whereas in pve its back to the usual 5k.

This isnt exactly what i think should happen but i strongly believe penetration is completely wrong atm and need to be switched up to combat heavy in pvp

    It would have to be way less then 20%, to give nirn and precise a chance.

    Yeh definetly do this percentage would be a step in the right direction or maybe it could be penetration=resistance multiplied by x

    Wasn't it a 10% bonus at one point, rather than the insanely high, 100% always BiS flat value we have now?

    The way it is, is indeed perfectly fine. You can change everything in the game to benefit pvp. You have to consider pve balance as well. And what would be the point of building a heavy armor build in pvp if you could negate all of their armor all the time? That's honestly the only thing they have going for them. Not to mention if you go % based you will have less effect on light and medium armor targets as you do now.

    The way i would like it is to put it simply...

    Sharpened should be weaker against squishies and stronger against tanks that is the whole point of penetration. The counter to squishies is focusing more on raw damage as opposed to penetration. I also think pve should just be balanced completely separately, imo this would fix a hell of a lot of issues.

    Im questioning if you actually read the post or not because your reply doesnt really make sense.

    Sharpened should remain number one in all scenarios. Sharpened weapons droprate should get increased.

    I am not willing to pay or farm for a differently-traited Spinner's or Maelstrom's or BSW and so on, because ZOS can't get their trait system under control.

    If you can get perfect balance into traits, fine. But given how abyssmal RNG in this game is, just leave it at this and rather focus on the ease of acquiring BiS gear.

    Cant ever resort to saying balance should be bad if items are too difficult to aquire. Imo balance should be focussed on before anything else. I just stopped playing until zos fix *** instead of grinding for some stupid ass imbalanced pixels. Eso doesnt interest me in its current state sadly

    I kinda agree.
    IMO, if everyone has access to the best trait, it's balanced to me.
    Obviously, that's not a mindset regarding skills and classes, but traits that only provide numbers? Just bring out the BiS trait and focus on more pressing matters.
