Does the soft cap need to continue to be raised with every update to the game?

I don't think it needs to be raised on EVERY update, but the occasional boost would be great for those at cap. What I'd love to see is ZOS not relying on CP for player progression, give us new levels and active skills. Passives are great, but they can be really boring.

    I don't know
    I'm conflicted

I took some time off away from the game and fell way behind.
I've been playing ESO almost exclusively upon my return, early in this past summer. I've been playing CP ranked characters 95% of the time (only take break to quickly level a lowbie up during XP events, no more than 11 hours per toon) for 6+ months and I'm STILL behind the current cap.

Cap needs to go up for progression reasons

But.. I feel like I am always chasing it. I'd like to be ahead of it at some point.

No - not as long as they leave the grind for CP in place as it is today while continuing to tune the game for CP 160 / fail to release progressively harder / higher CP tuned content.

If they had a reasonable catch up mechanism for new / low CP players and also created progressive content tuned for higher levels of CP (with higher rewards - maybe including CP catch up points), it might work.

But as it is, it just creates power creep that makes leaves a lot of content under-tuned for max CP players while the same content stays very difficult for low CP players.

And just like with the nerfs this coming patch - more CP allows more players to overpower the content, and just makes it more likley they will do more nerfs in the future to keep max CP power under control (thus making CP a bit illusionary - gain power today, get nerfed tomorrow).

Maybe I'm just old school - but IMO character power should be a reward for completing progressively more difficult content, not for spending hours running XP boosts while AOE'ing zombies in Skyreach.

Personally I think the CP attainable should differ from what's usable.

Specifically I'm saying not to penalize or slow down CP gains above the soft cap or usable/assignable amount.

Also I believe that difficulty should be based on Cp used and offer three toggles

    1. No cp
    2. CP 160+/-
    3. Soft cap 561/600

I'm not saying to remove veteran content or change normal but consider that there are two things going on and it's not being addressed.

    1. Player below 50 have cp but its of no consequence being visible to other players nor does it matter outside of a player choice in a build decision.
    2. Players above 50 seem to want to restrict who can play with them based on the amount of CP shown but nothing accounts for CP assigned.

The game would seem to benefit from only assigned CP and tiered encounters of current and future content.
These tiers should apply to RNG and/or keys and Mail as well as quality of items.

    Ideas like:
    1. Perhaps gold exclusive drops for any vet no CP runs.
    2. Purple / blue drops for no CP normal
    3. Green items for normal runs with cp.
    4. blue / purple items for cp Vet
    5. Blue and purple options for non dungeon no cp stuff (which of course will be impacted by other players with and without cp in the over world so it's a % RNG thing for quality)

Then you just adjust RNG % and loot tables upon Vet/normal with cp 160, with cp 561 ad so on and so forth.

Idk it's just how I see creating more desires to do stuff

A little power creep is good. If players do not slowly but surely get more powerful, they will get bored and stop playing. Players do not like character power progression coming to a standstill. For better or worse, that is just bad for business. The goal is not to let power creep get out of hand and the 2% or 3% DPS gain from a CP cap increase is not very much. Overpowered and exploitable skills/gear that take months to get fixed or rebalanced are a much bigger problem than 13 extra points in The Mage.

I suppose they have to raise it occasionally because some people can't seem to enjoy a game unless they're getting higher numbers on their character sheet, but increasing it with every update seems excessive if they stick to 4 updates a year.

I assume ZOS are able to pull stats on the game, like how many people have reached the CP cap (or even gotten close to it) so they can raise it when enough people are at the cap, after excluding accounts or characters that seem to be inactive or otherwise not levelling.

Yes, assuming that the catch up mechanic is also adjusted so new and returning players have the opportunity to be competitive.

now people want cp 160 or cp 300+ to do dungeon.. if it keep increase the requirement will become higher and higher.. which make new player harder to keep up..

which will eventually encourage solo play..
