I thought text chat was impossible on Console?

And yet. There it is.

Probably a long time ago but I just found out it exists.

So what happened to it being impossible and not a good fit for console?

Did it totally destroy everyone's immersion and render socialization completely null?

Trust me, turn off chat, what's said most of the time burns the eyes.

I do wish it had stayed away from console - full of rubbish, hate and sales pitches.

It's another contributing factor to the zergs in cyrodil. I wish it was never implemented.

Hahaha. Wow some of you guys are Debby Downers.

It's 80 to 90% helpful. Occasionally you'll get bros broing as bros like to bro, but whatever. I crafted a staff for some guy I never met before just today because he asked politely in the zone chat.

Txt chat is one of my favorite things added to xb1 been very helpful. I'm not sure why it took them so long to add it in just like the damage numbers and %health much needed in an mmo

I find text chat very helpful. Early on weekends I wake up before the fiancé, and want to run some duneons without waking her up. Text chat allows me to coordinate without using my microphone.

    Chat is the best.

If your pretending to play skyrim go ahead and turn it off.

Has been a great addition. They never said it could not be done on console they just said they didn't think people would want it or that it could not be implemented well on console. Personally I think it works well. Hook up a wireless keyboard and away you go.

Regarding the comments about what is said in text chat it is no worse than what was being said in voice chat. At least you don't get loud music blaring in your ear with text chat.

I'm sincerely glad to see most people are happy with it. I spent way too much time here arguing for the implementation of text chat for the first few months of the console release but eventually I gave up. The developers were adamantly against it and there were some real terrible community members who fought against it tooth and nail for no discernible reason.

I'm glad it's in, I may play again, I'm not sure yet. I just got a PS4 Pro and have the space to spare for the first time in ages and I've been just going through the library trying everything with Pro support to see how it comes out.

For those that may be curious, the framerate is locked 30 but much smoother than the vanilla PS4, the lighting seems improved, the game is rendering at 4k and textures stream in much more quickly and completely so you don't have nearly as many muddy gray mannequins running around, if any.

not to be all old and prude (or prune) like, but - text chat is another reason why we could really use some gamemasters in eso...

If you haven't played since before text chat your mind is gonna explode. One Tamriel changed everything in PVE for the better, and PVP is 4,529 times more difficult than 6 months ago. I still love it though.

It's fun, especially when you go to craglorn for more than 5 minutes for the first time to craft your first tbs set and end up staying for over an hour just watching the chat fill with hate because someone said teabagging was ***.

I've told many people this, but in all honesty, text chat saved my guild many times over. There was a falling out with several people in my guild many months ago (I've since, just recently, made up with a few of those people and we're friends again), and a lot of people left. For a very long time it was very much inactive. My old methods of recruiting wasn't working at all.

Over time, my time to play just evaporated, so i had to hand off leadership to someone else. For a long time even he got depressed and was thinking we would never be able to rebuild. The only thing that gave me hope was knowing that txt chat was coming, and i just kept telling him it would be so much better when text chat came. Well fast forward a few months, and my guild is hopping, way more than ever before, and my friend happily tells me I was right.

So I have to say, Thank you ZOS! You truly saved my guild!

Perhaps they will enhance it with tabs eventually. This way, a tab could be created just for tagged items. It would cut down the spam, and you could just tab over if you choose.

Text chat is the best QoL improvement added to consoles since launch. Those that say it makes their eyes bleed should just turn it off as its not mandatory to use it.

Ive completed all trials using text chat to form pug groups, and as a result added new friends. If text chat was never added I dont think Id still be playing this game.

    I love text chat.
I use voice chat for dungeons and trials and all, but text chat doesn't require you to be in that specific channel to receive it, so it's so much easier to organize dungeons and trials runs. Everyone online with it active gets the notification that the group is forming, it's great!
