Some shields appear way too small

It always bugged me that the Imperial shields look like that, it was the same in Skyrim. The Imperials are based on Romans, give us a big rectangle Roman style shield.

One of the reasons I hated 1 handed shield, those small plates you use to block giant daedra attacks LMAO.

Check out the Order of the Hour shield motif. That's pretty much a Roman-esque style.

Totally agree. Bought order of the hour shield motif because I thought is looked like an old roman shield in size. Was completely wrong there...

Yeah I've noticed this. I want my tank to look like a brick wall, not like he's playing Frisbee.

the very small shields are perfect for small rouge type characters who dont want HUGE shields

Never fought with a sword and shield have you, last thing you want is a heavy shield on your offhand draining your strength.

The only use for a large shield, is as part of a unit where you would create a shield wall.

Shields are used for blocking and moving a sword away, allowing you to make a killing blow with your weapon, a smaller lighter shield is better suited to this.

I personally think the larger shields are beautiful. I like the dark brotherhood shield for its size and looks.

...you do realize that shields have been around in all sizes, from small bucklers that barely covered the hand at 10 or so inches diameter to roman empire scutum style tower shields that provided full body protection at the expense of mobility...

So, if ESO is trying to give everyone some shieldyness flavors...

Be it those who like viking flavor...


...or those who like Knightly flavor...



...or those who like legionary flavor...

...or for some hopilte flavor...

...or some who enjoy byzantine flavor...

...or some who like footmen flavor...

...or those who like 1001 nights flavor...

...or those who like mongol flavor...

...and indeed, even those who like the swashbuckler flavor!


...then some shields will have to be smaller then others.

By the way, can you imagine what doctor Freud would have to say about people with large shields?

There's a simple reason they wont.

Clipping. Ever since they put the shields so tightly packed to the body, it's caused clipping issues. Rather than swallow their pride and move the shield back a bit so it floats off the character, which people hated until they saw the clippiing, they'll continue to make small shields so they dont have to admit fault.
