We need a reason and/or place to use it though, because obviously doing a cannonball down stairs would be nonsensical.

Clearly this means all the upcoming houses should have a pool option.

Probably not. It is linked to the quest action. That is the only time it is used. The rest of the time, you just scream.

The point is that it is triggered by a specific action at a specific location.

Edit: clarification... it is this specific location that allows them to know when to use the action.

I remember 2 orcs that dared me to jump off a high cliff to water in Wrothgar. Zeni could start enabling the animation in specific locations like that.

You know that drink that you can get from the festival vendors and sometimes from the quests?

They could tie the animation to those. You could do the canonball animation when jumping from a certain height during the effect of the drink (it is just a few seconds). Or make another item do that if people don't like the green screen and the npcs voices being funny.

I would love to have diving animations. It was one of the better features of a somewhat inferior game I used to play. *cough*

Perhaps a diving board, such as that game had? Or a variant of the cliff-jumper achievement?

Maybe development could add various dangerous places we can jump from throughout Tamriel (and Oblivion), similar to what we have in Wrothgar. Perhaps at those locations we could have that cannonball option/animation.

Similar, in a loose sort of way, to what is done in Guild Wars 2 with the various googles and dive locations.
