Have you talked to her about this? If she has a gambling problem, does she feel like she's at risk of losing track of money? What are some ways she knows that would stop her from spending thousands on this? She should know her own weaknesses and if this is something she's struggled with she'll have some ideas on how to handle them, so ask her about how to keep her from spending a gajillion dollars on this.

If she doesn't have specifically a gambling problem, just free access to your credit card? Talk to her about that. Set a limit on how much she can spend per month, either verbally or, if that doesn't work, cap the spending limit on the card itself.

The bottom line is that you should be talking to her about this, not us.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

Maybe you can't continue playing, at least for now. It's your call.
There's a tobacco vendor right at the corner of my street. I have to walk by every time I leave my house for the city center.
For the first six months of quitting smoking, I had to walk an extra mile by walking the opposite direction in order to avoid it. I knew I was too weak to face it. So I chose to take my weakness into account when making decisions for myself - instead of blaming the tobacco shop for being there.
If I had chosen to walk by the shop, I may or may not have fallen back to smoking. I chose to not take risk. But if I had fallen back to smoking, it would have been entirely my fault, yes. In my opinion.

And we're comparing crates with cigarettes here. Crates are not necessarily dangerous - whereas cigarettes ALWAYS are.

Nothing wrong with the suggestion. It's not like it will affect anyone else, so there's not much to complain about.

    Yes there is.
    - It implies that (some) customers are not actually responsible of their purchases and that some customers should be given power over other customers. I'm in favor of people being free of their actions and be responsible for it.
    - Second issue is that it would imply ZOS admitting that the crates are potentially dangerous. I believe the crates aren't great, but if some people are that vulnerable to temptation, then the crates should be the least of their worries. They should take care of themselves - and seek help if needed - rather than asking ZOS to protect them.

How would a lock on crown crates be any different than turning off, or on the profanity filter? How does that affect you, you choose to turn it on or off, that's all the OP is suggesting.

The problem with addiction is there's no self control the brain overrides, and want that feeling. If everyone felt the same as you we would not have addiction centers, more dead drug addicts. Some people actually need to be saved from themselves.

The difference is that the profanity filter can be turned on or off by the user himself. The gambling lock would have to be switched on or off BY SOMEONE ELSE - that's the big difference and that's where things get complicated.
It would imply someone being able to log on onto your account (which is forbidden by TOS) OR to monitor your account from theirs... do you realize how tricky this is to implement ?

When somebody has a gambling addiction you don't call up the Casino and say 'hey, don't let her in' - you don't go the corner store and say "her don't sell her lottery tickets." - No, you have to stop the problem at the root, which is the addict themself.

So you put up a gambling machine in every shop, bar and cafe, and then these people can't go anywhere anymore and have to lock themselves up in their homes. Because that's what's happening to MMOs and video games in general at the moment. Where is the "resposibility" of the companies in this?
I quit smoking tobacco one year ago (well... December 8th 2015, that's 1 year in six days). I know what addiction is, believe me. Yet have I ever expected from my local cigarettes vendor to check on my addiction status, or to ask my Mum first before selling me some ?

And yet on every package it says "smoking can kill you" and you have to show your ID to buy it. There are laws to protect people, companies can't just do whatever they want. That's how society works.
All kinds of gambling have a warning, have to publicise the odds and make sure people under 18 can't participate. Video game companies get around that. If they put in an opt-out they could at least prove that the system is not designed to exploit the weak. Until then I will just assume that the psychologists working for Zenimax in their marketing design these systems to do just that. They know how addiction works and want to make people addicted.
