Monster Set Musings

So, I've run dungeons and Undaunted for some time now, and with the inclusion of even more sets, obviously the RNG is telling me that there are one or 2 sets that I will never get the shoulders for - let alone in a half decent trait.

So I was wondering what people thought about the Should Drop rates in Undaunted and whether there was any other potential route that could be added to obtain a shoulder piece that you are after. Now, clearly I'm not saying it has to be perfect in terms of weight or trait - but something better than the odds we get right now.

I'm terribad at maths - but I think I'm right in saying the odds on getting exactly what I want is: (#traits-9) x (#weightType-3) x (#TypeOfSet) which is:

Maj Al-Ragath - 1 in 324
Urgalarg - 1 in 108
Giliron - 1 in 324

Now, depending on the level you are as a player, will determine really whether you can run Normal / Vet / Hardmode / High Level (WTG/ICP) - which in turn depends on the number of keys you can get.

If we work on the basis of an average player, average group, getting Normal and Vet done (no hard mode) that's 2 keys. Even if it rotated in order, that's 162 days, at the worst, to get what you want. Even with Urgalarg that would be 54 days.

So is there any practical, non game breaking, good suggestion anyone has to where they could be added?

My line of through was maybe have them added to the Boss drops - where the RNG is still active, and maybe a 25% chance of a shoulder piece dropping of one of the traits. Something where you can actually dump hours in to running a particular dungeon and feel you have some kind of vague control on it.

Anyhows, just ramblings from an old man who is sick of doing meaningless pledge runs in a vain attempt to get yet another pair of of Troll King Prosperous.

Edit: I just re-read the last line of this and realised the irony of it all :D

I farmed like 70+ times VOM and then found 1 light infused and 1 divine, was always getting heavy and medium in all traits.

During runs, i traded heavy and medium for light (thanks to dungeon loot trade)

I did not complain but enjoyed my runs and also farm worm, rattlecage gears and jewlery.

I realized that i was only doing that dungeon because of RNG, if i would have gotten desired Helm in a 1-2 runs then i would have never run those dungeons and never have worm, rattlecage multiple sets for my builds..

Pretty sure monster sets only come in one style? Unique. Never seen a Skoria that looks different than any others for example.

But in your math you forgot to include the fact that you are competing with other sets that will drop from the same chest.

So more like; (Trait) X (Weight) X (#of other shoulder sets)

Sometimes I wish you could use your key and pick which monster set you'd like to have rolled for you..

Then if you're getting trash traits at least you're getting trash traits on a set piece you're hunting for.

Luckily, it only took me about 16 keys to get Medium Divines Kra'gh shoulders.. However, Veli shoulders are becoming an issue.. Cannot tell you how many Lord Wardens and Heavy Chalk (or whatever the Muzzatan shoulder is) I've deconned in the past week or so..

@Lord_Dexter I think you're missing the point mate :) I'm talking about the shoulders, not the Helms :)

@jkolb2030 Tell me about it. A guildie has been trying for months, religiously, every day, to get Skoria Shoulders - Nothing :/

Oh, I do not disagree it's RNG. What I AM saying, is when you run that dungeon, you know you will get a Helm drop or that particular drop. So it's a 1 in 27 chance to get the one you want.

When you open a chest, the odds are horrific on getting what you want.

What if when you kill the boss at the end of the dungeon, you have a 25% chance of dropping a pair of shoulders of that type to :)

There are actually 8 traits, since monster sets and dungeons sets never drop in nirnhoned. So the actual numbers are:
    Glirion & Maj: 12 sets x 3 weights x 8 traits = 1/288 chance for any single shoulder
    Urgalarg: 4 sets x 3 weights x 8 traits = 1/96 chance for any single shoulder.

My solution is to keep all impenetrable and divines shoulders from chests and heads from dungeons. Infused heads for sets that are useful for tanking. The rest are just decon trash. That way I never regret deconning a perfect trait piece that I got by accident if I happen to need it later. I've made a mule specifically for monster sets.
