Skills replacement

simiid
simiid
Hello,

I've just started the game and I have few questions regarding the skills.
I play as an Imperial DragonKnight

1. If I unlock all skills and passives at some point, then isn't it possible to replace the active skills on my bar1 and bar2 ? Something like drag and drop or whatever it is the way of doing this. Why should I reset my skills points then ?

2. To upgrade Pierce Armor 1 to 2 faster, which is binded to key 1 I have to spam it as much as possible, else it wouldn't level up only if I fight with basic attacks or using other skills. Right ?

3. If I use One Hand and Shield with a sword and shield ... can't I use skills from two hands from example ? I mean what is the benefit to use only from one hand and shield skills

4. Reading some guides I saw recommending 2 Medium Armor and 5 Heavy Armor. Why not all armor heavy ?

Thank you

1: You can reset skill points or morphs anytime you want, so if you want to test a different morph, then you can, both skill point and morphs cost gold, although not as expensive as it used to be, the more levelled you are, the more it will cost.

2: It does not matter what skills you have on a training bar, all exp you gather, goes to all skills needing trained up, plus your overall level ofc if you are below 50, or including CP progress.

3: Nope, 2H skills require, funnily enough, a 2 hander on weapon bar.

4: You can wear what you want, most run 5/1/1 configuration to take advantage of undaunted mettle passives, or in case of varying stam builds for example, then running 5 or more medium pieces of armour gives you extra weapon damage, crit etc, same with magicka builds and wearing light armour, also giving buffs to magic users.

Although with current meta in PvP, many are running in fully heavy armour but not going into why at this point, plenty of intel on that elsewhere.

    1. You reset skill points mainly because you don't like the Morphs you chose, or you decide to abandon a particular line for a different one and needs the points.

    2. As long as you have a skill on you hotbar, it will level.

    3. No. You can have a 2h skill on your bar while using Sword and Board, but it will not be usable.

    4. Because there are some passives in medium that benefit your build, and Medium won't level unless you are wearing a piece of it. If you are going stamina build you want to level medium armor. If you are magika, you want to level light armor.

I'm not prejudiced; I hate everyone equally !

Dragging and dropping lets you use the skills you have, which cost points to unlock. You can eventually morph a skill so that it works a little differently. If you decide you no longer want to use a skill and want your skill point back to spend for something else, you can get it refunded. If you have morphed a skill and want to try the other version of it, you can refund the point you spent to morph it and undo the morph.

For example, you may decide at some point you no longer wish to use the one hand and shield skill line and want the points back from it. Or you may want to get points back from morphing skills in the one hand and shield line to change them to other morphs of those skills.

    2. To upgrade Pierce Armor 1 to 2 faster, which is binded to key 1 I have to spam it as much as possible, else it wouldn't level up only if I fight with basic attacks or using other skills. Right ?

Any skill that is on your active bar when you earn XP will benefit from the XP, even if it isn't being used. Not only that, but the skill line in which that skill resides also earns XP.

    3. If I use One Hand and Shield with a sword and shield ... can't I use skills from two hands from example ? I mean what is the benefit to use only from one hand and shield skills

Each skill line has it's own advantages and disadvantages and may have restrictions on their use. Skills from weapon skill lines require that particular weapon to be equipped to be used. You could have a two-handed weapon skill like Cleave on bar one, but, if bar one is equipped with a sword and mace Cleave will be darkened to show it can't be used. Class skills, Guild skills, Vampire/Werewolf skills, Alliance War skills, etc, have their own restrictions but are not limited by your choice of weapon.

    4. Reading some guides I saw recommending 2 Medium Armor and 5 Heavy Armor. Why not all armor heavy ?

It depends on the type of build the guide is for. Each type of armor has its own advantages. Each armor skill line has a passive bonus that requires 5 pieces of that type of armor to use, while other bonuses increase for each piece of that type of armor that is worn. In this case, it may be that 5 heavy gives sufficient damage mitigation (it's purpose) while the two medium make the wearer more agile (it's purpose). In some cases people may prefer to wear 5 of one type and then 1 of each of the other two to get a bonus from the Undaunted skill line.

    Thank you

    @simiid

    1. You can move skills around anytime you want, as long as you are not in combat.

Resetting skill points is for when you want to change things like remove all skill points from a certain skill or any other line. This is the only way to remove points from crafting or non-skill items like passives. This refunds all skill points, clean slate.

Resetting morphs is for when one wants to only change one or more morphs. The only removes the morphs and only refunds the skill points for the morphs.

    2. To level a skill to the next level only requires gaining XP while it is on the active bar. The same applies for leveling a skill line that responds to XP such as the weapon of class skill lines (must have weapon slotted on that bar or skills from the weapon or skill line. Using the skills has zero affect on leveling it, only it being on the active bar.

    3. To use skills from weapon lines that weapon must be on the same bar. One cannot use 2H skills while having S&B active.

    4. Concerning armor, it depends on what you are doing and mostly involved end game except for stamina users. Below is specific to PvE. I asume you are tanking but I added info for stam and magika dps.

Tanks really benefit from max stats and as such 5 heavy, 1 medium and 1 light are best to increase max stats via the undaunted passives. Best to have the light and medium armor pieces on small armor to maximize physical and spell resistance (waist and shoulders best, hands and feet are good as well). The additional stam cost reduction and stam regen is not worth wearing a second piece. Max stats is a fundamental part of tank survival (TTK).

Magika gets no additional benefit to increase dps or healing past 5 pieces. Users should equip 5 light, 1 medium and 1 heavy. This provides bonus to increase max stats from the Undaunted bonus. Best to have the medium and heavy pieces on large pieces such as Head, Chest and Leggs. This maximized physical resistance.

Stamina DPS get additional crit chance for each piece of armor and 7 piece of medium is best.
