Returning player question, scaling is new to me, but does it make leveling pointless / game easier?

Nauive question as a returning player, still waiting for a old install to update, but does scaling make a players level pointless, due to enemies scaling to the player, which for me as a mostly solo player when doing the main storey, but also enjoys teaming up for the dungeons etc... Does leveling make killing the enemies easier / to easy perhaps?

No, it enhances the game greatly in my view as a mostly solo (and cooperative) PvE player.

First, whenever you go to a lower level zone you are having same-level encounters and getting worthwhile experience and loot.

Second, you can now take on any DLC at any stage in the game. Previously, as a slow advancer with multiple characters, I was unwilling to do any DLC content before level 50 because it would result in my being ridiculously over-leveled on returning to the base game content. Now I can stop in the middle of a zone at any point in the game and wander off to the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, or Orsinium and still find same-level encounters and quests when I go back to the main zones no matter whether I have gained a couple of levels. Even without doing the DLC content early I was always several levels over my zone, now I don't have that problem.

One Tamriel has been a great change in my view, I have no regrets over it at all. Moreover, it has exceeded my expectations so far as the seamless way in which the scaling operates is concerned. In the recent Halloween event, for example, I was regularly fighting at say level 30 with some champion points alongside other players between level 3 with no champion points and level 50 with capped champion points, and yet we all fought the same mobs and all got appropriate experience and loot for our levels.

Leveling matters. You get skill points, get to shift your stats into your main stat, which should all go into stamina or magicka in most cases, you can equip higher level gear, and eventually you get into gaining champion points. You are much stronger with 561 champion points than with 0. You'll probably find the game a little harder overall since you'll nevet be outleveling mobs. This will force you to improve as a player, which is a good thing. Welcome back!

Its not perfect but IMO it improves the game. I can now play anywhere I like with anyone I like, bring new alts online and play with my high level chums, all that stuff is great.

It's a bit odd that you basically go DOWN in stats as you level up, but when you ding 50 you respec anyway, so no big drama.

I think this was a good move from ZOS, in terms of playability.

Brilliant Thank you for your reply , you have helped ease my concerns and make me even more excited to be once again playing ESO , the elder scrolls remaster which came as a freebie due to me already owning all the DLC for Skyrim , really has given me the bug to play again , seems I got the bug just at the right time too , with the crown discount sale for 5500 :)

Just the long download time for my original 6 month out of date install to update , should take around another 24 - 36 hours before I can play but it will be well worth the wait :)

I recently came back after 18 months off and I think the game is the best it's ever been. So long as you never have to deal with support - who are even more useless than ever before - I think you will have a great time!

I feel really bored to be honest, after aldmeri dom which was my main, I feel so bored to go to Ebonheart since everything is scaled and no matter what I do being a magic sorc, you dish out damage very slowly and it feels like an eternity. All other meleers are like stab stab run to the next one , and Im here like heavy charging and using a few destruct staff skills.Dungeons are more fun than story for this. I like to see improvement on my effort, not whatever I do the enemy do the same and that be the end of it, it feels very blah

I dislike the lack of progression that leveling usually brings, but felt the simplistic style of ESO before scaling didn't really satisfy that anyway. I would like more of the satisfaction of leveling up, but not many games do that right to begin with.

I love that I can finally do group content with people I want to play with. Now I don't have to worry about being overpowered or underpowered, and being able to group with their characters no matter the faction is a fantastic addition.

The battle levelling just means that you will -always- face 'proper' opponents. They do not level to you, the mobs are at max level, and your character battle-levels to them.
It also means you will -always- get loot you could use, never low level stuff or things you are not ready for yet. (Very good news for those who go trophy hunting by the way, since some mobs were always a bit iffy to find once you got to endgame powah; even better news with the quest- and region-dropped sets making it quite possible to get a decent set of gear just by playing through the regions)
And you can -always- join any group, and never be the lowbie runt or the overlevelled funstealer; which can make some things a lot easier (public dungeons or craglorn come to mind...). Same with DLC, as has been mentioned.

The only thing that you cannot do anymore is "come back in a couple levels" when facing a tough fight... (Though there are few fights like that anymore anyhow, at least none in the solo content, and for all else you can bring friends...) and, no more easy soloing of world bosses, they are all (well, most, some -can- still be soloed if you are skilled enough) a fun group challenge nowadays!

Player level still matters though. Those skill points count for something, the more and better (morphed & maxed) skills you have to choose from to find your individual playstyle, the better your combat experience will be.

This is an odd question. Even ignoring champion points, which make a big difference, leveling up is required to unlock new skills. You might be able to get by in casual questing just spamming Rapid Strikes or whatever, but when you take on harder content or group dungeons, having a wide array of available tools is extremely useful. Many builds outright require skills higher up the tree and are unusable before you unlock them.

Completely agree with everyone else

Levelling now represents skills and stat priorities. You can continue to gain CP from exp even after hitting level 50. All this update does is vastly improve the gameplay of ESO by giving you a whole world to explore and complete freedom with how you approach it. It's exactly what many of us had hoped it would be from day one.

There are still a few issues left over, like civil war oriented quests which feel completely out of place now. But they're sparse enough not to affect immersion too much, and there's always the possibility that they'll be altered in future patches.

IMO the game got better with the scaling since you can earn xp everywhere. That is the biggest change. Everything else is like it used to. You still need to level up skills and improve armor as you go since this doesn't scale with you.

Brilliant , I am looking forward to spending time in the new to me areas once I have my game updated and I pay with my 5500 crowns for the 4 DLC's , I am on the original base pack from 2015 so I guess a lot will of changed , my character is Level 22 , so I am guessing he will need a full respec , So I shall read up on some speccing guides.....

Only slight issue I have is that my update is taking forever , I have 6100 crowns , my intention is to buy the 4 DLC and then purchase the "starters adv pack" for the mount which has a nice discount and is affordable with my left over crowns , so I am seriously hoping the sale does not end before my update has finished , which could take another 48 hours !

This usually means you are doing something horribly wrong.
The scaling in ESO works wonders, but it does not protect you from your own mistakes.
    1. You need to have gear of appropriate level.
    2. You need to wear armor appropriate for your playstyle (Light Armor for magic casters).
    3. You need to invest attributes into a single resource (magicka or stamina)
    4. You need to eat food and have the food buff active at all times.
    5. You need to deal damage with skill of your main stat (magicka or stamina)

If you follow these tips, you will be as competitive (or even better) as any other player, regardless of ranged or close combat.
