I'm in a guild that wants me to pay them 1k a week - legit or scam?

Why would a guild need 1,000g from it's members once a week?

Unless it's a trade guild with a good spot, I'd never join for a fee.

Are you getting anything in return? Some guilds do raffles etc.

All the large trading guilds charge fees because they maintain a trader at one of the prime locations, which costs a lot of money.

None of my guilds charges any fees but people often donate some money per week to help with hiring a trader.

The ones I'm in only do that to keep guild traders. Cause like was said, they are very costly, every week you bid on them again. I don't mind giving the 1k, usually I give like 5k. Cause I make way more than that off the guild trader.

    depends on a hired trader.

As far I know majority of big trading guild moved to "minimum sales" value, but my trading guild do just charges 1k/week for Mournhold trader. I like it :)

And yes, it's made because of huge price to hold the trader in a good spot.

as a general rule of thumb, most trade guilds require 1-2k weekly sales.

It's not a scam unless they're offering you something you're not gonna get. If the fee is simply for the privelage of being in the guild, then I say leave. If it's a trading guild, a fee is almost always asked for. There are dozens of guilds out there that offer crafting services and players willing to do dungeons and stuff that do NOT require any fees, you just gotta look around.

That is the nice thing being with 2 casual trading guilds. They do raffles to get some extra income to keep their trader. And both are in the same city lol.

I joined this guild yesterday or day before. I have been selling items in the guild store. The way they word this it makes it sound like I am suppose to have 1k gold in my own bank at all times but that makes no sense because they cannot see what I have on me. So I am guessing they want a 1k contribution a week. Which would be fine if it was a month but weekly is a little pushy. Also they have ungodly amount of money no one needs this much for anything. How much is those freakn rent-a-street-traders anyway? Are you suppose to bid on them? Also, every guild I have been in does a raffle thingy whether they were big, small, or w/e. I don't raffle it's against my personal religion but idc if you all do. Not pushing my beliefs just saying.

The top traders go for several millions a week.

Yes, your guild needs to bid on a trader, which means you can lose your trader for a whole week if you don't win the bid.

Leave it OP, plenty of great trading guilds like Harrods PC EU for example that are great yet donations are not mandatory.

1K? Smh. Just do your crafting writs one day to pay for the week and then some. My trading guild is 10k per week for the best spot in the game (ronil in rawlkha).

Most likely cos they hire guild traders, and hiring guild traders costs money but you do get your stuffs sold.
If a guild don't hire guild traders, your listings are likely to sell under market price or hardly ever sold.

I am in 5 Guilds, 1 Large Social 2 Medium Social, 1 Small Social and 1 Trading Guild.

We get Kiosks on 2 to 3 of the Guilds each week, this week all 5 have them. Sentinel, Wayrest, Ebonheart, and two rural locations. All decent locations other than one, and that is because the Kiosk is not right at the Wayshrine. I have a hard time keeping 20 items listed in each Guild. I made more than 400,000 in gold last week (when only 3 of them had Kiosks).

And, not one fee was paid to a guild.

Now, I do donate sporadically to the guilds, but not at any rate that could be called Often. So, unless this guild has, and keeps, a trader in a high traffic area, I would find a new guild.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

If the guild has a guild vendor of any kind then it's likely to raise money to pay for the vendor each week. If it's like "Pay us 1k gold each week or else..." then run far far away. If it's an established trade guild then guild vendors can cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of gold each week so all the members have to pitch in to afford the vendor so 1k is pretty low.

Yes if its a guild that hires a trader they usually charge between 1 and 5 k a week. Some may just ask for donations. And occasionally there's guilds that do both ( donations are entrys into a raffle sometimes). And rarely there's guilds that charge just too charge. Some also charge for bank access so you can withdraw shared items. I myself am in 3 large trade guilds costing me 15k per week at 5k each. That said I usually make 100k minimum a week. Best thing too do is look into what your getting and in the cases with trade guilds consider how much you will sell and what its worth as well as how often you will be able keep your 30 slots full. And lastly is the amount you pay worth it considering how often they may keep winning trader bids. No trader means little too no sales for that whole week.

    There is no scam here

You need to have about 29k gold total in sales and/or purchases a week. If you had zero sales/purchases you would need to donate 1000 gold, which would be the same as the tax they would receive on the sales you didn't make. It looks like the x-coin system was put in place so people that had say 14k total in sales/purchases didn't have to donate a full 1k gold to stay in guild. They would have 490 x-coins from the sales/purchases and only have to chip in 510 gold out of pocket to maintain the minimum.

I want to say the system is over-complicated, but it really isn't. They explain the system decently enough and then have this afterwords...
    Q) Man, I really don't like math. Do I really have to read all of that?
    A) Yes.

    Q) Seriously? Can't you just give me a TL;DR?
    A) No. That was the TL;DR. Read it.

    Q) Really?
    A) Yes.

    Q) . . . Really?
    A) YES!

It looks like they want people to understand the system.

I am in TSE also. Please go to the google docs page and READ what the requirements are. xCoins are a way to gauge involvement in the guild. If you aren't helping us (the guild) pay the 4 mill gold per week to keep our trader, you get booted. If you read the information you will see that there are many ways to meet the requirement.

Best Trader guilds must bid more than 1 Million Gold each week to get a trader. Without 35 Million Gold in sales each week, it must get the gold from Guild Members.

Be aware, I have joined guilds where the Guild Master took all the Gold weeks after everyone donated and never bid on a Trader. Most Guilds are legitimate.

Out of the three (3) Guilds that I run, two do not require weekly deposits, but sometimes do ask for donations from more wealthy members or small deposits from the less active to help reach the necessary bid amount.

One of my guilds is specifically designated as an Elite Trader Guild, and requires 2,000 gold each week you are active (or 4,000 gold for the more wealthy Elite Members of the Guild so that we can win the better traders each week.

None of these Guilds kick people for failing to deposit each week. If they are top sellers and not depositing, there will be a discussion though. But so far, everyone wants the guilds to succeed.

So, pick and choose the type of Guild you need to join. Before you are making 25,000-100,000 gold a week, stick with no-requirement guilds. But don't expect a trader every week. Even in the Best Guild Traders there is no guarantee to get a Trader.

Actually, it seems like this is far less of a hassle than flat donations. They don't require you to do anything except make 30k in sales, if you fail to do that you can make up the difference by paying it directly. I understand the religious reasons for not wanting to do raffles, but you can still donate.

Basically they're providing a community, managed by experienced players, which is designed to be mutually beneficial, if you choose not to contribute, they approach you about it and give you an option.

Honestly, if they have a good trader its worth 1k. A lot of trade guilds don't count your taxed sales towards any weekly dues.

I am new to the game and I am not sure how guilds work but usually in mmorpgs you just represent your guild and you earn them things just by doing that, but if anything this sounds like a high maintenance guild, since I work hard in real life I personally do not want something that sounds like another job, try to look for more laid back guilds if you can.

I only join guilds to make friends, and group, I will help of course as I am sure many will help me back.

This is not a scam OP. Based on what I've read here you do have access to information that would give you a solid idea to reach this conclusion on your own (such as the guild FAQ, the fact they have a website, a schedule consistent with trade standards, etc). I wouldn't expect anyone who is new or learning to know these things right away, but most of this stuff is detailed in the "home" page (when you open the guild screen) in-game.

Your particular guild seems to have a wonky way of going about collecting their dues to pay for the trader, raffle items, etc. but they have every right to run their system the way they see fit. It is very common for guilds to charge a minimum, however most guilds will waive the donation if you're actively selling items in their store. Guilds get a minor cut of anything sold in their store. Depending on the trader location, this % cut that goes to the guild usually falls very short of the bid required to actually keep said trader. Most guilds do raffles in addition to this so as to ensure they have enough weekly revenue to cover the cost of keeping a trader. After all, a trade guild is basically nothing without a trader.
