Smart loot does NOT work! Prove inside! Please fix it!

With One Tamriel there was supposed to be this so called "Smart Loot" which prevents Stamina Sets from dropping Magicka weapons (Staves) and Magicka-Sets from dropping stuff like Bows and so on. However this does currently not work ingame! See those pics for proof.

Been addressed multiple times already.

Suuuuuuuuper frustrating to finally get a sharpened weapon... but have it be a resto staff of red mountain or something else equally "smart".

Apparently "smart" means different things to different people. Doubt a fix will come any time soon.

Almost as good as Charged vMA/vDSA weapons.

It's not smart. The only thing it does is makes weapons that in no way or form can proc the 5th bonus not drop.

So the set that needs damage done with a weapon ability won't drop in resto kind of thing.

Working as intended. Smart Loot means that you won't see a two handed weapon for a set where the 5pc bonus buffs dual wield nor will you see a resto staff for a set that buffs destro staves on the 5pc.

"Smart loot" just makes swords for magicka sets all that much harder to get.

You dont understand "smart loot".

It just means that sets which proc from melee won't drop in range weapons. The same witch sets wchich buff some weapon skills won't drop in other weapons.

Rest is just missunderstanding from players.

You guys are crazy. I love my Sheer Venom ice staff. Might use it on my DK considering the set procs on execute abilities.

Did someone really coin the buzz phrase "smart loot"? Ugh, that's as bad as "megaserver" or "the cloud", which is really bad. Why don't they just remove staves from stamina sets and remove everything else from magicka sets? Surely that would actually fix the problem?

The only problem here is a lack of imagination. Believe it or not, people can and do use such seemingly contradictory set/weapon combos and use them well. Limiting staves to straight magicka sets and everything else to stamina sets just deepens the unfortunate divide that currently exists between stamina and magicka.

The only thing that really needs excluded in the loot tables is combos that are impossible. Lightning Staff of the Sword Singer or Two Handed Sword of Spider Cultist Cowl. Stuff like that.

Those two combos are excluded under the system thankfully. If you haven't seen it, @Panda_iMunch has a magicka sorc build that uses Embershield which is a heavy armour set that can clear vMA

I always just took smart loot to just mean that you wouldn't get Magicka sets drop with stamina traits - so no more robust willpower rings for example

Heavy Armor sets like plague doctor can be used by Stamina and Magicka both so we still need staff and bows..

Agree with Magicka and Stamina Build sets should not have irrelevant drops like you mentioned.

1h weapons and shields in magicka oriented sets are still quite useful to magicka builds, tanking gear is a bit harder to pin down and might be useful on anything under pvp or solo conditions.

Really the biggest slap in the face is clear stamina dps sets on staves, and 2h weapons/bows in magicka dps sets. I'm almost certain someone would speak up and claim to want these things, but they seem illogical on the whole.


Oh and ZOS while you're at it, take the weapon damage off of ice furnace ffs

Well as MissBizz say that is not how the "smart loot" works.

However I made a grin last night when I got a sharpened VO lighning staff. I would be thrilled if it was "smart" and dropped either as a dagger or same weapon in IA instead.

I was under the impression that "smart loot" only applies to sets that specify a certain weapon type. Spider Cult, for example, should only drop Destruction Staffs and not any other weapon type.

I haven't actively farmed this set but I haven't seen any weapons other than Destruction staff for Spider Cult so I'm assuming it's working as intended.

The only thing they need to change is to make weapons of all kinds drop in less traits. Training, charged, infused, decisive and prosperous aren't ideal for most builds. Sharpened is pretty much king if you want to put out any kind of DPS. Precise can be used for some PvE crit builds.

For those saying stam sets dropping staves and magicka sets dropping traditional metal weapons are wrong? Let me introduce you to the Stam sorc and Magicka DK. The only thing making those drops as fustrating as they are, is the other stupid traits that lower our chances to get what we really want.
