What's a DoT and what isn't?

E.g. Poison Arrow I'd clearly consider to be a DoT. But what about Liquid Lightning, the Negate Magic Ulti or Sun Shield? Are they affected by cp stellar skill to improve DoT efffectiveness or not?

A DoT is an attack that once applied does damage per tick while the applier does something else. But in ESO there area quite some skills that aren't casted against an enemy but stationary or at oneself and still do damage per tick - do they count as DoTs or not?

ZOS has annoyingly refused to make the ability tool tips more informative by labeling things like DOT damage.

The best way to double check an ability as DOT is to turn on combat text. DOT ticks are distinct and appear as orange, smaller type to the lower right of the enemy. If you hit them and see these ticks, it's DOT.

all skills defined as a skill that deals X amount of damage over X time, be it an independant DOT such as Searing Strike or a channeled one like a Resto staff heavy attack. For more info https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/243544/what-exactly-is-a-dot
