dunno if mentioned already, but you can pull the shield guy with silver lash / dk chains to you, just make sure you do it before he channels the Shield. this way you can kill 1 and Position the other in an area without plants

I always interrupt him.. I also always use the speed and defence sigil on him as well.

He can't hit what he can't catch..
And the defence sigil males you tough enough to not die even when he is enraged.

Mushrooms only appear if you don't plan where to make shield guys stand during a scream.

Also, nobody forces you to even do that mechanic. Most of the times I do the first scream in a shield then just ignore further shielders and kill the boss in a direct way.

There is some RNG to it.

Mostly you just have to be really aware of your environment...

In my experience if you run high sustain and a range interrupt its actually easier to just keep him interrupted and kite. You can literally track the whole room in a big circle just running around the flowers. All of my early runs for completion were done in this fashion, it took me awhile to adjust to burning him in order to get higher scores. For the record kiting him and interrupting only slows you down, its not hard.
