Getting the PC version to work

I bought this the last time it was on offer on steam, after not being able to play a TES game on the Mac. I really appreciate that there is a TES game on this format, because for personal reasons its the only format available at this time. When i first bought ESO on steam and a lengthy download and patching, i though it was a really good game. BUT the problem i have is the constant patches since. I can understand that content and bugs need to be fixed, however, i barely get to play this game due to the content takes far too long to download from the servers. some patches are 35-60Gb each time.

On saturday 5th November i couldn't get access to the server by logging in. I have been trying to patch this ALL DAY with no success. Now i am in the process of a fresh install (60Gb) to try and solve the problem, but i'm not convinced this will be the end of my woes.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what to do in the meantime of me waiting for the download to finish?

Just finished the complete download and when i try to access the server i get the error

"Connection to server timed out. Please try again later."

So after a complete fresh download still no access. Not sure how i can solve this, but i do want answers considering i have wasted a whole Saturday trying to play the game.
