Convenience. If I had bought every game on my Xbox and PS4 I had to buy a new shelve to store them as well. I also prefer to simply switch between games without changing discs. And in the end it's not that much more expensive anymore. I do understand your download argument though.

I get it for convenience but that has always come at a cost. I never buy a game from XBL unless there is something good being paired with it. In store locally it was £29.99 vs XBL £49.99 it took me 11 mins to get to the store and back.
Unless you live in the middle of godforsaken nowhere it's just plain lazy half the time. No wonder obesity is such an issue. ZOS probably does such long maintenence periods to try and get people off the game for a few hours.

Depending on where in the world you are, the physical versions of anything can take forever to get to you, and you might have to pay the cost of transportation plus taxes, which often make the game more expensive in the end.
