Holy trinity in this game?

I am new to ESO ...only playing it since last week. I picked Sorc as my class and totally enjoying it. I have a general question... is there a holy trinity concept in this game similar to WoW/Rift ? seems classes are able to heal themselves and maybe in this game it depends and holy trinity is not generally necessary ?

The holy trinity is still a thing but any class can technically do any of the 3 roles. However there is always gonna be a class that is superior in any giver role.

    Dragonknights are OP Tanks
    Templars are OP Healers
    And if I remember right
    Sorcerercs are OP Magicka DPS
and Dragonknights/Nightblades are OP Stamina DPS

Not sure about the current Meta on DPS but the Tank and Healer has been ironclad since day one.

It depends on which content you're doing. There is some self-healing capability for virtually all classes, stamina or magicka, although there are some limitations for some of them, and sometimes the most effective means of healing is found outside of the class (weapon/armor skills). The existence of the Trinity is very much real in ESO, but it's defined differently than in other MMOs. There is a very strong focus on damage in ESO, so much so that the Holy Trinity has effectively been diminished to more like a teeter-totter.

Tanks and Healers do their traditional roles, but only to the extent that is necessary. The key focus of both tanks and healers in ESO is support - providing as many buffs as possible to their dps, whether it be through straight dps increases, health buffs, shields, etc. Major/Minor buffs are exceedingly important for competitive content, and most endgame raid groups focus on maximizing the up-time on as many of those buffs as possible, and constantly. Leaderboard scores are based upon completion time and efficacy (nobody dying), and the best way to clear just about anything in this game is to have exceedingly high dps. It simply speeds things up, and sometimes allows groups to skip mechanics entirely. Basically, pretty much everything pve-wise in ESO is dps-oriented. It's still important for tanks to maintain aggro, crowd control, and have respectable mitigation. It's also still important for healers to have high sustain and potent heals. Both of these examples, however, are simply the "busy work" of the role, and providing support to dps is the real key to success in almost everything.

In the most extreme min/maxing cases, the holy trinity is 100% present in this game. If you want to do bleeding edge maximum DPS, you will give up all self healing and tanking abilities and the same goes for healing/tanking for the most part.

However, this game plays more like GW2 when you've got a balanced build for PVP or solo/group PVE. A tank or DPS can run solid healing/self healing abilities, and a healer can run plenty of DPS abilities.

You can be a great DPS with any class, no problems at all. You also can make decent tank and healer with every class but they will be no match for a DK tank or a Templar healer in end-game PVE.

In trials and harder veteran dungeons its 100% trinity just like you said. Also i dont think gw2 is a good comparison. They forced you to have heals and support abilities.

Stam Nightblades are OP DPS? For stamina, sorcerers are right up there with DKs; even better in most situations.

I don't care whether they forced you to use something or not - I simply said that this game plays more like GW2 when you have a balanced build because you do have heals and support abilities of your own.

If you want to DPS while Tanking and heal your partners... you can consider an Argonian NB "Sap Tank". They're not quite as good as DK tanks... but they really do add DPS, Heals, and maintain aggro.

Plus, they're pretty fun to play! I used to run Lord Warden, Ebon, and Worm Cult on my Sap Tank to maximize the group buffs.
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.
