Maelstrom weapons chest: The new rate of One tamriel !

galledark
galledark
Hi, i heard a rumor witch says:
-"The chest wich contains Maelstrom weapon will give you:
*Staffs if you're a magika player
*Bow, Axes, daggers, swords and shield if you are a stamina player

Now, you can't drop a sword or a bow if you're a magika character;
And you can't drop a staff if you're a stamina player.

Is that true???? It's the 3rd time i do Veteran Maelstrom Arena tonight and i only get staffs....... It really scares me....
Please answer me with a evidence if possible... Like a comment of a member of zenimax....
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english (i'm french)

it's honestly not a bad idea in theory. in THEORY, a magika user would be best served with a staff.

In theory communism's a good idea

There was a lot of chatter about a "smart loot" system being implemented in the game. For example, you would not get a Bow of the Warlock or a fire staff of the Marksman. There was also talk about tailoring certain drops to fit your character, so a magic user would be more likely to get magic sets and weapons.

From what I can tell, none of it made it into One Tamriel. I havent run VMA in a week, but we are still getting plenty of weapon drops that make absolutely no sense. WTS Bow of the Lich...

Yes that's currently the case it looks like that was changed. What's weird is that many people have reported your more likely to get BIS weapons for a stamina build with a magic build and better magica weapons with a stam build. Its a interesting trend that I have noticed.

Maybe by taking in account the most highest resource or resource regen (or both) you may have (magicka or stam).

If you using that armor set that equals both resources (Pelinal Aptitude I think) then the system either do not filter or make the filtering based on your stats not having such armor set.

Someone just told me that he has dropped a Inferno staff, with a stamina sorcerer... during this afternoon !

So, the drop rate has changed but....We can still drop any kind of weapons?

For VMA, it would be pretty Obvious. Do you have 30K+ stam or 40K+ magic. Haha

Ok....So it was only a fake...... thanks....

Thanks everyone..... As a magika sorcerer, i was really scared about this rumor. I'm looking for dagers and axes for my stamina character, so.... i gonna continue even if it gonna takes time.

I glad we can still drop EVERY Maelstrom weapons, no matter what character we use....
And i hope ZoS will never make this horror of "you loot what you're character is". Caus its REALLY hard to pass vMA, and supress a possibility of reeward will be really a shame !

Thanks again everyone. I wish you to enjoy your game :)

That would be best, getting trolled with sharpened bows for magicka sets is not working.

I ran VMA on a stam sorc yesterday and got a sharpened fire staff. The eleventy-seven times before that, I got useless stam crap (maces, swords, or dagger/axe with garbage traits). Then I got a couple staves. It was the same RNG when I ran it with my magblade or my magsorc.
So no, OP, the drops are not dictated by your spec. It is random, even if sometimes it seems to lean more to one side or the other.

If they did add a system like this they could base it off of whatever stat is higher, or possibly even add in an option like the group roles? While I get why some players would want this (it would bother me), for some it may be difficult to farm vet Maelstrom on stam, or for some magicka. Or they may just like farming it on their most effective character. Regardless, I would like to see an option for players to choose stamina/magicka like the class roles so other players can tell what you are when in a random group. That's a completely different topic though.

    Nope.

Ran it 3 times on my magblade since patch and got a powered Axe, Precise Inferno and Precise Resto. While it does seem to be dropping more BiS items than previously, it's such a small sample size that I can't give any guesses on any changes.

"Smart loot" system they spoke of in the patch notes is bollocks. I've had SPC shield and Dreugh King Slayer destro staff drop from the respective dungeons as well as the reward for the final Craglorn quest, which is a sharpened 2H sword from a magicka set. If they haven't implemented it where they said they will, I seriously doubt they implemented it where they didn't. RNG tends to cluster in apparently predictable patterns, if a convenient sample is chosen. The Maelstrom case reeks of pareidolia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia.

Craglorn final quest reward is a bygone product from when hybrids were doable and everyone needed nirncrux items for research, so you're going to end up with all sorts of ridiculously useless items from that container.

ZOS' version of "smart loot" extends only as far as not giving you a 2h for the marksman set or a Sword singer bow. If the set has no specific 5 piece bonus for a certain weapon type then you can still expect it in any and all weapons and weapon slots.

I'm not talking about the nirned item, which is random. That's from the quest before the final one. I'm talking about Titus' sword or whatever is called.

I think whoever you heard the rumour from got the wrong end of the stick.

Sets will drop more intelligently. For instance, a vicious ophidian drop will no longer be a resto staff. Because it makes zero sense.

A warlock drop won't be a battleaxe. No Vicious death bows. No red mountain destro staff.

Nothing to do with if you are magica or stamina.

It only applies to the 5th piece bonus of a set e.g. Marksman or Sword Singer. Everything else is fair game for crappy loot.

God if we could only forbid stupid people from reading Patch notes and then spreading false facts around.

Here is the line from the Patch notes where this rumor originated from:
    • Sets that grant a bonus to melee damage will now drop more intelligently (i.e. a set with melee damage will no longer drop with a bow or stave).

Now when an intelligent person reads this, he understands the implications here completely.
F.E. you can no longer find a Ravager staff. Not because a Ravager staff makes no sense, but rather the fact that the staff cannot trigger the 5th piece bonus. (which makes it not have any sense).
A Willpower Greatsword on the other hand exists because you get the full benefit of that set piece regardless of how little sense it is to have one.

But when a mentally challenged person (partially) reads this, he gets his own vision of something he really wants, then projects his *** wishes to other players that then start to spread such theories like wildfire.
    Because, reasons.
