Yes that's currently the case it looks like that was changed. What's weird is that many people have reported your more likely to get BIS weapons for a stamina build with a magic build and better magica weapons with a stam build. Its a interesting trend that I have noticed.So....Nobody knows if it's true?
I mean.....Can i drop a Maelstrom Dagger, with my magika sorcerer?
How would they determine if you're a magicka or stamina player?

Hi, i heard a rumor witch says:
-"The chest wich contains Maelstrom weapon will give you:
*Staffs if you're a magika player
*Bow, Axes, daggers, swords and shield if you are a stamina player
Now, you can't drop a sword or a bow if you're a magika character;
And you can't drop a staff if you're a stamina player.
Is that true???? It's the 3rd time i do Veteran Maelstrom Arena tonight and i only get staffs....... It really scares me....
Please answer me with a evidence if possible... Like a comment of a member of zenimax....
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english (i'm french)
"Smart loot" system they spoke of in the patch notes is bollocks. I've had SPC shield and Dreugh King Slayer destro staff drop from the respective dungeons as well as the reward for the final Craglorn quest, which is a sharpened 2H sword from a magicka set. If they haven't implemented it where they said they will, I seriously doubt they implemented it where they didn't. RNG tends to cluster in apparently predictable patterns, if a convenient sample is chosen. The Maelstrom case reeks of pareidolia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia.

Craglorn final quest reward is a bygone product from when hybrids were doable and everyone needed nirncrux items for research, so you're going to end up with all sorts of ridiculously useless items from that container.
ZOS' version of "smart loot" extends only as far as not giving you a 2h for the marksman set or a Sword singer bow. If the set has no specific 5 piece bonus for a certain weapon type then you can still expect it in any and all weapons and weapon slots.
I think whoever you heard the rumour from got the wrong end of the stick.
Sets will drop more intelligently. For instance, a vicious ophidian drop will no longer be a resto staff. Because it makes zero sense.
A warlock drop won't be a battleaxe. No Vicious death bows. No red mountain destro staff.
Nothing to do with if you are magica or stamina.

Tell that to the lightning staff of the vicious ophidian I got last night.

- Sets that grant a bonus to melee damage will now drop more intelligently (i.e. a set with melee damage will no longer drop with a bow or stave).
