One of the reasons I can't take World of Warcraft seriously anymore is because of the sheer insanity of their flying dragons, sparkly mounts, and the cutesy pets following everyone around and making stupid noise all day.
ESO isn't nearly as bad of course (WoW is exponentially worse), but now that ESO is B2P they seem to be putting more emphasis on the Crown Store. Fine, I say, they need to make their money. Most of that fluff isn't for me, but I understand that players want this stuff.
However I can only see this getting worse and worse over time. Wouldn't it be practical to add either a global or individual toggle for this kind of stuff? A few options would be possible:
1 - global toggle for all pets (i.e., no player pets would be visible on my screen). This could improve performance for some people who struggle on the client side.
2 - global toggle for all mounts - I.e., all players would be visible on horses only. This would make the game more lore-friendly for immersion enthusiasts, since (to my knowledge) horses were the only available mounts in all other ES games.
3 - individual toggle for each mount, pet, etc in the collection screen - If, overall, I have no performance issues and I don't really mind seeing different mounts and pets in the game, but there are certain crazy, ridiculous or lore-unfriendly pets or mounts that just really irk me, I could go into my collection screen, click on that pet or mount, and select from a drop-down menu an option that says "never show this pet/mount" so that my screen isn't filled with sparkles every time I go to a populated player hub.
I think this could be a win-win. It wouldn't affect other players' enjoyment of their sparkles, and it could also vastly improve performance for players with older computers when going to heavily-populated areas.
