I have to agree on the lack of gold sinks. I have fully upgraded bags/bank, own every in-game horse, and have a bunch of fancy gear I bought from other players, but I'm still sitting on at least 4.5 million with nothing left to spend it on - and that's low compared to a lot of the people in the trade guilds that I am in.

It will be great if housing has gold options (and not just for the houses that nobody wants), but since the barbershop we all asked for came out as crown store only, I won't hold my breath on that. Everything new seems to be only available with crowns now. They should add some lesser versions of a few crown store things, and add some extra bank and bag extensions.

It will always be problematic when you have coins entering the game but not leaving it. Selling to and buying from other players doesn't change a thing, since those coins are still in the game (just changing hands). We need to have ways to remove the coins from the game altogether to keep the economy stable.

The economy is already stable. You're just asking for more ways to spend your gold. One method is for devs to create content that can be purchased with gold, like you and the original poster said.

An additional option, which other major MMOs have implemented, is allowing players to sell game time and game currency to other players for in-game gold.

I think both should be done.

How about mounts you get from quests. Give each race a basic mount to unlock via questing. It could be horse, guar, or a feline mount.

    Anything would work.

Unfortunately the crown store does take out all the expensive gold sinks. It makes no sense for ZOS to balance the gold economy when they need to sell real-money crown stuff to stay in business.

So I've got 2.3 million gold now, maybe every week burn 5K on guild raffles, 5-20K on motifs I want, 100K on a good monster set in Cyrodil, but then make that back and more from thieving, murder, writs, quests, and selling motifs and gear in guild store, or doing crafting for others. I have so many repair kits from writs I never pay to repair armor. I never let the pigs catch me to extract a bounty, and I'd rather die fighting than pay it voluntarily. Once you get into the habit of making and not spending money, it's hard to stop.

It can't be a one-time expense like a mount. What we need are ongoing gambling games, like the crown crates but in gold, or just Tamriel's version of Blackjack and slot machines. I'd like to bet on duelling, but of course players would immediately throw the fights, you can't ever trust players. Maybe some kind of elaborate cockfighting, er, "Poké Daedra", with expensive (in gold) fighting pets & food?

You know I want to be horrified by this... but

I have this really aggressive Winged Twilight who would absolutely LOVE it.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

these games make their money out of selling two things- convenience and vanity. so in order to sell those they ve got to make things hella inconvenient (i.e. the banking system) or ugly- (the basic motifs). i feel ur pain- but
yeh- if u could earn the shiny stuff- they wouldn't be able to sell them i guess.

I play a few hours a day usually doing writs and collecting materials, i find im always spending gold on set pieces, dreaugh wax and motif pages.

I hope housing doesn't revolve around crowns. But yes, there needs to be more to invest into that isnt gear and motif pages clogging guild stores.

@dsalter @nimander99 Can you recommend how you have so much gold? I struggle to make 1k apart from selling drops I don't need...

Its hard to say @TheAngelofDeath99 I never set out to make gold playing this game... I got to VR 16 and completed every quest before I even paid attention to the economy and by that time I had a lot of gold and have been banking it ever since... Like the OP said, not much to spend gold on, hopefully housing offers some gold purchases and isn't just straight up crown or gambling.

ZoS is greedy as s... so it will never happen. I mean they sell emotes for $, so its safe to say that anything and everything new will be sold for cash. Played 5-6 MMOs so far, and this one is by far greediest in terms of stuff they only sell for $.

Really? I thought Neverwinter was completely ridiculous (around £58 for a single race ffs). Even moreso than ESO and that's when I knew little about how MMO's charge over £30 for a reskinned armour. Hell, i used to moan about 2 hour dlc's costing £10. £10 for 2 hours of content seems like the bargain of the century when you look at the prices in MMO's. Capcom seem like saints compared to the very expensive *** that goes into MMO stores.

I gave up Neverwinter for ESO. Atleast while i was playing NW had an amazing model. I didn't spend a single penny on that game and yet a had absolutely everything i wanted from cash shop. NW had an amazing thing called Exchange where ppl exchange cash currency for ingame currency. It was great both for ppl who don't want to spend money and for ppl who don't have to much time to play but want easy acces to in game currency. Just immagine ESO had crown/gold exchange where whenever you want can dump 1M gold for lets say 3-4k crowns, that would be amazing.

There is a massive gold sink in the economy, which is called "guild trader bidding". If you are not participating in it in some way then you are either lucky or missing the point, but some kiosks cost millions of gold a week - if you aren't a member of a trade guild and haven't donated in some way towards a guild keeping a trader (which involves a *** ton of money being sucked out of circulation every week), then you aren't fully participating in the economy.

I don't need an expensive mount to take my cash out of circulation, I can see where it is all going.

the problem with this argument is each player isn't spending that much.
guild kiosk contributions are usually 10k per person, that's 2 hours of thieving at most. the total cost is a collective from 500 guild members. not one.

so i invest 10k into a guilds collective, gain access to the vendor for the time, then sell to my hearts content, gold earned has gone up stupidly higher.

trust me the gold "sink" that is guild kiosks is nothing if customers keep collecting gold as well as the guild collective, there needs to be outside sources to lower gold for guild kiosks to function as a sink.

Yes 1 milion or 5 milion mounts would help people spend gold... older player have no use for all the gold right now.

agreed, make them stand out abit, make the armor trim gold n such, usually motivates people to spend the gold if it stands out which is what we intend
