Is it possible to change your PSN ID? I really messed up

I had no idea that they used your PSN name in your guilds and groups when I signed up to play. I leveled all the way to 50 pretty much solo and didn't figure it out until I started running dungeons and now a lot of trials. The problem is that I signed up under my wifes PSN ID cause we just use that as our default login most of the time. Her PSN name begins with Tanky cause she used to be a tank in World of Warcraft for years.

Now every time I join a group they tell me "oh I thought you were a tank" and it's caused some confusion in trials and other stuff. Really messed me up last night cause we all got to Maw and they thought I was one of the freaking tanks. I had to drop group so they could get a tank cause we were full and it wouldn't have been right to ask another DPS to step out since it was my name that caused the confusion.

Has anyone ever messaged Sony or ESO about changing the PSN ID? If I did, would it make me have to start the game from scratch? I don't even care if I have to pay $50 to do it, I just want to switch to a different ID.

Not sure why the game asked me to create a character name when I signed up. I wished it would of come with a warning that said "WARNING, your PSN ID will be displayed in Groups and Guilds"

You'd have to go from scratch, been with Sony for years. I love em, but they are harsh in their policies, a psn id change aint gonna happen

Literally only way to make Sony change your account name is if it breaks a rule... but then your entire ps account is ruined, seems like Sony literally use the account name itself as the base ID for everything, if that changes things like your friend list is gone, you vanish from other peoples friends list etc.

Meanwhile, other services that use an account name have a non-shown base ID that the account/username is essentially dressed over.

I agree that the character naming option on consoles is confusing... I suspect it was more a case of "Well it was made for PC, let's not waste time removing it" (And i find name change tokens entirely pointless on console)

I don't know about the PC version of ESO, but i know of other MMO's that have a Character@Accountname system where character name is the dominant name but you can check their info to see their account name, or it shows in chat etc. perhaps eso is similar in that style on the PC version? Not sure, i'm also on PS4

This sounds like it's not really your problem but the problem of people who assume your role(I hate how tumblrista that comes off as). Maybe they should ask role instead, I mean what would the odds be that you had a full line up of tanks on that account anyway.

If it's anything like an Xbox gamertag then it's displayed every time someone highlights your character, along with your character name and title.

Thing is though that people shouldn't assume that you're a tank just because you have the word tank in your console name...character name is a different matter.

Assuming you are a tank because it has that in your PSN name is stupid. We get 8-12 character slots (depending on if you buy any) and that assumption is basically saying that they think all of your characters are tanks.

That's like people assuming my characters are all Khajiit because I have the word "Cat" in my gamertag. It's stupid.


In answer to your direct question, there is no way to rename your gamertag on Playstation. If you want a new name the only way is to start a new account. Sadly.
