who can craft 9 trait armor sets to squeeze you for everything you are worth just to craft you some pieces? I was looking for a crafter to craft me a 9 trait set and he asked me what I thought was a fair price, so I said 5K, plus whatever materials I had leftover. (I have 1500 rubedite). and he responds with, "no thanks, it cost me a lot of gold to get 9 traits." which I get because I have 8 traits on everything myself, all but 1 piece nirn. but should I wait and try to find a friendly crafter who will do it for 5K or is this type of thing the norm?

I would wait for a friendly crafter. You may get someone here to offer, there's usually some nice people around. But they need to know you are on the PS4 NA server(at least that's what I gather from stalking your comments.)

I would say it's somewhat common. I've seen multiple people charge 5k+ per piece for 9-traits. But as long as you provide materials(that includes nirn..), I usually don't charge anything. Sure, if people want to send me some gold as a thank you - I appreciate that. But it's never something I'll force people to do :p

I wish we had a system where someone could put in a request to the writ boards or something and a crafter could pick up the request and fulfill it. Once they fulfill it they can claim whatever gold the customer put as payment. Customer could also supply or not supply mats as they see fit.

I hate deciding prices on crafting and there is always some hassle involved in setting this up with another person. I've been a nine trait crafter for a long time but I don't make any money off it because I don't want to argue with people about prices, styles mats etc...

9 trait crafter is a specialty, a rare skill, I personally paid 40k for a whole setup, then 20k another time, and 20k another time. 3-5k per piece is a fair price.

why because i hate people i don't know, messaging me constantly, expecting me to drop everything to make them gear,
so word is slowly getting around that my prices rediculously high.
now i dont get people messaging me constantly - i love it

People who answer like that need to put a price on their services themselves instead of expecting you to guess.

If they want to charge more than 5k, I honestly see no issue with it, but they should tell you how much they think their services are worth. You are not paying for them to press a button, you are paying them to stop what they are doing, go to a location - which can be a hassle sometimes, like with IC sets - and then press a button, which they can only do after acquiring the ability to press said button through spending time and maybe gold.

Not really my thing, though. If I'm using the client's mats and not my own, I'm happy. If I get a tip, I'm super happy and will probably craft for you again if you ask. If you are sending me to the Imperial City, though, you either escort me all the way to the crafting station or we will have to agree on a price before I go, because that's too much of a hassle. And don't expect me to drop what I am doing immediately to go craft for you. Your gaming time isn't more important to me than my own gaming time.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Just curious, but were you also going to send the style, trait and upgrade mats? Or was he going to use his own? Depending on what you wanted, some of those can be pricey, especially if you were wanting a set in purple or gold.
So without knowing exactly what it was you were after, and how much of his own mats he was to supply, it's difficult to say whether 5k is a fair price or not.

That said, he should have set a price himself, letting you know everything that was (or wasn't) included within that price.

Wow some people are charging crazy prices. I am on xbox and never pay more than 10k and never charge more than 10k now that I can craft 9 trait.

Most of the time I do it for free and on occasion will even give extra mats when they need it, at no additional cost.

Edit: and that is 10k total for a set of 5 pieces.

Was it Armor Master? They deserved the gold if it was and you should respect their craft more. If it was from one of the DLC you're forgetting they had to pay or buy the DLC besides do the research to be able to make it for you.

This is a good idea but with one adjustment. They should say what they are willing to pay for the service, and if it is accepted by someone then you have a contract. Otherwise if it is made then the buyer pays what they feel like, it will get abused.

no it wasn't armor master. and I never said I wouldn't pay, I was just wondering if it was common practice bc normally I craft my own.

I just meant they deserved a decent tip, not insinuated that you didn't offer to pay. If all 5 pieces were C160 and heavy it would have taken 680 rubedite ingots, and if you let them keep the remainder from 1500, that was generous, on top of the 5k. For Twice Born Star that would have been a fair trade. Armor Master or Evil Hunt, I would have pony-upped more :)

Exactly. The crafter would see how much gold the buyer put as a reward for the item. The buyer can't change that after the crafter picks up the contract. The crafter would then have 1hr or so to complete the contract before it resets to prevent people from picking up contracts and not fulfilling them to troll people. Once the crafter puts the item in the crate or whatever it is, he can withdraw the gold. I don't know exactly the mechanics it could have so I'm treating it similarly to how crafting writs work. It is just a rough idea.

Provided it wasn't an IC set (I can understand Crafters charging more for such sets) then, as a 9 crafter myself, I would think 5k more than fair for a white set & with you supplying all mats.

Did he happen to tell you what price he was looking for?
