How many crown gems does each item give?

Does anyone know how many crown gems each item/tier of items gives?

I know the Superior tier items give 5 gems each, and I got 13 from the Palomino horse and Upright Antler Skullcap so I assume the Epic tier give 13 each. But I've not had any repeats of the Legendary or Apex rewards so I don't know how many they give.

Each item will give 1/3rd the cost of that item rounded down. 16 gem items give 5. 40 gives 13, 100 gives 33 and 400 should give 133 (but I haven't seen a double of that one to confirm)

Ah. I hadn't noticed the pattern, thanks. :)

I was trying to work out how many crates you'd need to open for the rarest items and I suddenly realised I wasn't factoring in the gems, because at this rate (420 crates opened and no drops for some apex and legendary items) it looks like it will be cheaper to buy them with gems than keep trying for a drop.

Although in this case cheaper is still very expensive, especially for apex rewards.

    Jep,

Meaning that there are two sets of numbers we need to estimate/calculate
    1. One set of the numbers being the chance on a direct hit on your desired item
    2. The other set of numbers the average amount of crates to get refunded the Crown Gems needed for the 4 classes of items.

The second set of numbers can be calculated (pffff) or be modeled.
But it is I think easier to plot the Crown Gem refund stock as function of number of Crates opened, averaged from feedback of us all.

My gut feeling in my first post on this topic was that you would need to spend approx 8 times 5,200 Crowns to get your first 400 Crown Gems refunded.
And that you would need approx 4 times 5,200 Crowns for the next 400 Crown Gems refunded.
(because the first run would already have filled up many slots of minor items, giving a higher refund yield on that second run)

And refunded Crown Gems are the only reliable way to get that 1 Storm Atronach Mount you really want.
( the direct hit on a random Apex is already very low => an extremely low chance on precisely that 1 Apex item you really want)

We should have fought for our village and not have backed down, with our tail between our legs. Thanks to loads of people contributing data I think we're getting close to working out the drop rates in this thread. For the apex rewards it's somewhere around 0.5% - 0.2%.

But it occurred to me that at this rate if you want a specific item you're likely to get enough gems before you get it as a drop so that would be worth knowing the average cost to get enough gems.

I think given the data I've got you're right that it would be easiest to plot average gems per crate, with an explanation that it won't be exactly accurate (as it depends on how many cosmetics you've got already, and of course the contents of each crate are random). But it'd be enough for a rough estimate of how much you'll need to spend, and much easier than a more accurate model.
