Because it is Gold, not the green, blue or epic. Golden weapon seriously boost your damage. It should be very rare. And it was a mistake on the game release, when it not so rare was.
Why this high boost concerns only weapons but doesn't the armors? I can't understand the logic in boosting only weapons, when it's the same 8 pcs. gold mats needed to improve every part of the armor and stats are increased just a bit.

Seriously...just refined 600+ rubedite ore, 800+ raw ancestor silk/rubedo leather, and 500+ rough ruby ash. That was close to ten hours of farming and all I got was 1 alloy and 1 rosin. Seiously? How is that possible? Please increase the drop rate ZOS.

Just refined 40 galatite... Recieved 2 tempers ;)

Sadly getting goldmats seems to be balance around multiple chars per account doing writs and getting hireling mats.

From my experience you need ~4 chars to selfsustain with hirelings + writs every day. Everything on top is luxury to sell or test.

    @Derra

What you are saying has to do with increasing the volume. With running writs on 4 characters I was able to keep 5 characters in gold armor and keep golding out new sets as I changed.

So, in other words, doing writs on one character would have been sufficient for keeping one character's gear gold.

    Works great.

Well i guess it´s possible if you have an exact plan of what sets you want to use and have them available in correct traits right away.

However if you want to test things or adapt to meta changes it can become a lot more expensive to even keep one character updated in my experience. Maybe i´m just too wasteful.

Wow, this garnered quite a bit of attention. All with mostly similar feelings about the RNG drop of these gold mats. I do understand in other games especially MMOs getting full legendary is incredibly difficult, but the return on your said legendary gear in most games is also incredibly better than the epic, which is just completely and sadly not the case in this game. So I reiterate some sort of mechanic, as one user pointed out, to prevent players from the abnormalities of RNG should be put in place. And secondly the gear stats/set bonuses should go up more for legendary.

PS: refined 300 more raw clothier materials and saw no wax last evening.

Lol I have now gone over 2000 raw materials without seeing a yellow mat. I will begin taking video and uploading from here on out, if I ever farm again lol. Might just be done with that part of the game ha.

Just sell the stack of unrefined and buy the gold tempers. Or hit the out the way guild traders. you will be shocked at the low amount people will throw stuff up for on the stores.

Now speaking for a PS4 NA DC, but a few traders in Wrothgar had Tempers for 5K.. they gone now :D

yea, and then someone other who will buy this stack, he can also dont get anything gold from this and he will be stil a someone who will complain with it :/

but also who can know you will dont get any gol tempers from that huge stack? soon raw mats will cost less then refined materials because rng for gold temper is horrible and you not always getting 10 refined materials for 10 raw mats :P

I have changed gear on a dime and made the new set gold. I also have multiple pieces for the same gear slot to provide different weights so I can swap gear easily, all gold.

However, your talking about an extreme and should be costly. Try testing gear out in purple and only gold out what you will use is the best way. Comparing purple gear to purple gear provides relevant comparison.

The problem i see is not about the gold mats but about the gear system. With other mmo games, lotta times you need to do hard content like an epic trial to get epic gear, which is already great piece for doing all content, then you may upgrade it to make it a bit more powerful so with the upgrade doing hard content is only a bit easier than non upgraded epic piece (or in p2w case make it super though unnecessarily powerful, and usually only obvious in pvp). Yet in ESO its fairly easy to get good sets, you dont need to do HM trials for VO or IA, and which dont blow some other sets like julianos or hundings you can craft or obtain by lightyears. But then the difference is huge between gold and purple weapons and HA.

So my point is, ESO makes gold gear op but the sets themselves dont have miles of difference except maybe vma dw, but other games have the sets themselves, upgraded to gold or not, op and enough to do all content comfortably, while the upgrade only makes them a bit better.

I dont agree that gold quality should improve gear that much more than purple, cuz its just one more tier. But, i think it should be that better sets can only be obtained by harder content, and these sets/weapons are powerful enough as purple quality and can do all content with ease.

Purple to Gold really isn't THAT big a jump, but the jump from White to Gold is huge! Also there are games that make a big deal out of upgrading and use a system that is hard as steel to get max upgrade quality for and usually resorts to Pay 2 Win methods to do so as a result. As for ESO, if you wish to blame something for how easy it is in comparison to get top quality gear blame everyone that wants everything easily that Zenimax decided to acknowledge lol

Over the course of 3 days I have been farming Shadowhide scraps, last night I hit 1610 scraps, I said it's time to Refine..

I refined them all and I got 17 Dreugh Wax.

Sometimes I refine less, like around 1100 and maybe will get 6-8 Dreugh Wax.

And one time I had like 900 Shadowhide scraps and got no Dreugh wax at all.. (yeah I was pissed that night, but you just start again).

and then one day i only had like 400 Shadowhide scraps and got 5 Dreugh Wax.

So I really feel it can be a real crap shoot to get legendary mats. (RNG gods be with me)

The one thing I realized is that the more you have the better your chances, but it needs to be of that one type.. usually (damn RNG gods :grimace: )

So when I save alot of unrefined mats and think its enough, sometimes I wait until I get more, my standard used to be 1k of scraps, now its 1500 or more before I refine, I just seem to get more when I have more.

And yes it can take alot of time, so bring a buddy to do it with and you can get double the scraps and it will take a shorter amount of time and most of all, make a game out of it, have fun , play who's the better killer (ALA The Chronicles of Riddick) to see who can kill the fastest  it makes the time pass quicker.

I have found it very beneficial to close out the crafting UI after each purple or gold temper/tannin I refine. I have never refined more than one stack for purple or two stacks for a gold. Ever. Call it mumbo jumbo but it has worked for me and it worked for the player who gave me the hint. Refining all mats at once without stopping has provided me with some of the most dreadful results. Not quite as bad as OP but I was still not a happy adventurer.

    @Kreshja

I've never seen a gear where epic gear only can from clearing the hardest content. I have seen it were the best set bonuses came from the hardest content.

In ESO upgrading from purple to gold provides the same increase as improving from blue to purple. It's not that big of a jump. Weapons is only alt that gets a bigger increase with Spell/Weapon dammage for CP160 weapons when improving from purple to gold.

No offense, but I am calling BS on this. There is no way you got 1 alloy, 1 rosin and 0 wax. Unless you have video proof of this, sorry but you sir are lying horribly.

I agree with op, I have experienced the same miss fortune. The main reason I dont farm max level node anymore. I get more yellow mats from iron, jute and oak than anything else.

@elvenmad I agree, I think its because of hews bane. They decrease the drop rate from voidstone, night and voidbloom last year before they released new farming mats. So maybe new farming nodes r coming.

I normally get at least 1 alloy per stack, never less, usually more. I find alloy easier to get than wax, so much so I farm alloy to trade for wax
