Since we already get leather from kills, it's going to be a hard sell to get this update. They would have to switch the drop so that you didn't get leather from the kill, only the skinning of it. Otherwise there would be an influx of leather all over the market dropping prices on every server.
This would make the game more realistic for sure. But would also take longer for people to obtain the items they get. A lot of people may not want this as they are in a constant rush to gather as much as possible as quickly as they can.
On the other hand, this could be a great way for people to get leather as anyone could skin the animal regardless of who killed it.
