Play the Way You Want

I've seen a lot of posts and whatnot about trying to be the ideal player on ESO, whether it be in PVE or PVP. Whether it be the best build for PVP or how to properly heal/dps/tank, it can be a bit to take in for anyone, and it may leave some people feeling inadequate about how they play. Please, don't feel like that. ESO is an expansive game that lets you play in all sorts of styles. If you prefer PVP, fine! If you like PVE, roleplaying, questing, and more, enjoy it! If you feel lost and are unsure on what to do in the game, don't be afraid to ask! There may be a few sour apples in ESO, but they are vastly outnumbered by kind and friendly people. Don't let others and how they play dictate your play style. Enjoy ESO how you want!

Exactly, let people play how they want and try to find the best build for PVP and how to properly heal/dps/tank.
There are plenty of people that don't bother with all this stuff as well, they are also playing how they want.

That's why I think this is such a brilliant game!

I'll bet half the player-base already plays in their underwear, or less.

I didn't know the devs had to make an official proclamation.

You can play the way you want solo, but as part of a group you must know and fulfill your chosen role. If you sign up as tank, and you have medium armor, 2W & Bow you can't do that. Or sign up as healer and have no healing spells available. Or DD and you can't kill even the trash in dungeons.

I also want to take a moment to give a massive thank you and appreciation to those who are 531 yet still have the time and patience to deal with the rest of us, probably because they still remember what it was like to be where we are now.

I intend to get more out of my third character this time, which means getting into PvP (despite the bad apples) and more dungeons.

I'm slowly L2Ping my character, but the game's mechanics are so overwhelming. I just started to learn to use my throwing knives better, as well as replenishing HP on critical hits. I don't use overload as much anymore, but it's a nice backup.

My next step is learning to stop fighting the enemy to the death when my health is 50% and theirs is 10%. I didn't realize bosses get buffed when their health dropped. :astonished:

L2P. Easy to say. Hard to master.

I have to be honest, I've been in IC and Cyrodiil once since they nerfed shields on sorcerers. Surviving was hard enough as it was against weapon attacks, got ganked the other day and it was more or less an instakill, no fun for me there anymore. On the plus side I'm almost at level 50 on my Bosmer NB and will be in a better position to help out in PvP with this character. If someone can give me a good set up for a magica Breton sorcerer for PvP I would be very grateful.

Agree totaly with open mind mentality when it come to complex and huge game like ESO. Our friend here is right! Do play the way you want and don't loose sleep about it! In most cases people will help you and if you meet one rotten fruit, please do laugh about it as they are quiet pathetic.
You can create many characters and play them all a different way! That's the beauty of this very attractive game!

When grouping with strangers, yes. With friends, as long as they know how you play and still want to group with you, go have fun.

I've YOLO'd dungeons more than once with a less than ideal group and had a blast because I was doing it with nice people.

Yeh, i'm all for people playing how they want solo or even pvp. I don't care about if we die there.

But when I'm wiping over and in group pve content because people aren't pulling their weight and have builds they find fun but aren't effective, then sorry, you play what will work or I'm out.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but when I only have a few hours a night I don't want to spend two hours in WGT because the magica Dk dps has double sword and board and no range to take out pinions! As you can tell, I wasted a lot of my night last night :)

If I miss anything from the "play like you want" category, it would be in the crafting department.. I remember them saying that you could play a character exclusively as a crafter.. I guess they forgot some points like, stil having to do PvE/PvP to level up, gain skillpoints and so on

It could be worse. About a week ago, I spent 3.5 hours in WGT while running it with the GM of a massive guild, and someone who constantly runs and organizes trials. I was in shock that these two people I've even run trials with were so poor in DPS.

I don't know how someone can get Emperor several times, yet only be doing average dps, and standing constantly in red.

Almost said something, considering the GM had whispered me the night before, after I made an honest mistake while healing a trial, asking if I was healing or being carried. So, when I ran WGT with him, I wanted to tell him off so badly...

I expected a lot from that group, and I'd much rather spend 3.5 hours with newbies in WGT than with those people.

Hilariously, I had done a 30 minute run of it before that run, and decided to run it again after GM advertised he needed healer, and I figured it'd be a fast, smooth run, instead of a 3.5 hour incomplete

I think most players play as they want. Not everyone wants to tackle the vet trials or super boss in PvP.

Hybrid builds, heavy armor and using a bow with a magika based character all work for questing in the open world and players can have fun with them.

Of course those that are interested in heavy PvP and clearing vMoL are still playing as they want but in those cases it's wearing the gear and using the skills that get the job done.

Wrong. If you do not learn tactics and rotations that already work, equip best in slot items and sets and streamline your build for maximum effect then you are not going to be successful in this game. Play your way is dead. Telling people that it is ok to run around with a heavy armor, hybrid mag/stam with a caster/bow dps etc. is only going to hurt them. Once they get beyond chugging around the maps and getting into real content not being optimized is just going to leave them lacking and their teammates hurting. This will prevent them from entering the upper echelons of the game which believe me is where the real end game and true rewards are. This is not a traditional TES. There are too many resources to become a better player. So once you are done doing these quest that have been nerfed so bad you could box naked through them you need to get your head in the game and get serious or be excluded due to your own inadequacies.

My main is 100% built to be PVP DPS. 3 of my guildies needed a 4th to do some speed runs. I let them know I knew none of the mechanics and I was wearing a set that wouldn't help at all in a dungeon (vicious death). They said, no problem.

I ended up dying a few times but we still completed all 3 speed runs.

Moral of the story: let your group mates know what you're capable of and most people will be fine. Also, if you can DPS your face off with 40k plus magic most people will get past you not knowing that running out of a boss's red circle will kill you.
