Fell Hide - Not finding any

I read from an old thread that Fell Hide has long been difficult to find.

I have spent a few extended sessions trying to farm it in northern Coldharbour. The Daedra only seem to drop Daeda husks. Rather than finding it rarely I don't find any at all. I need some to finish a writ that is just one item short of being complete and has been for days or possibly into weeks.

I know some suggest skipping writs at this level but the crafter has already levelled beyond it but the writs are capped at this level due to not having reached Coldharbour yet.

An I the only one not finding any Fell Hide? Are there any places that are reliable places to get it?

I found plenty (ok, not plenty, but enough) in Coldharbor last night on the Clannfear. You won't get hide off humanoid daedra, but the Clannfear drop it on a regular, if small, basis.

youre not. I needed fell too and went to the zones where its meant to be, didn't get any. Then again I think I have an issue with levelling out of balance. (I posted another thread on this forum)

I used to grind the public dungeon there to get fell hide. For some reason in the basic game locations the public dungeons are full of mobs that drop good loot, and respawn fast - but they give low xp.

Grinding zombies also gives decent amount of loot ...you basically have to find a location with many mobs and fast spawn. It's why most people go to public dungeons, and try to get the boss achievements while they grind. Lots of deconstructable materials + achievements at once

if you have any of the dlc's they may prove a better source of material

if you dont have any dlc, you could try visiting a delve in cyrodill, the drop rates i believe behave as they do in DLC's

dlc drop rates (in case you didnt know) 50 50 chance of acquiring materials that are your characters level or your crafting level

The trouble is both my charater and crafting level are not at Fell hide. Crafting level is higher and usage level is lower. This rules out harvesting in adapting zones. I guess I will have to persevere with the Clanfear that have been giving me only useless daedric husks.

when you say your crafters are below coldharbour, how much below, because this could be why you aren't getting drops! you will only receive drops if they are within 5 level of you

have you considered going to you alliance capital & respecking your skill points?

you could set your crafting level to the level your writs are actually at or better still reassign the points for a time.

when i first started leveling my crafter i concentrated on skill points in to research 1st, then refining & only as cadwell silver came to a close did i start spending points so i could craft my own armour, & i didnt even bother with writs until much, much later.

if you have 2 crafters though you could still do the writs on the 1 and the other would be in a much better position to level quickly and get the materials your writ crafte needs!

My crafter is Level 33 with clothing level 6.
My original character doing the harvesting is CP 135 with crafting level 7.
I tried killing countless Clanfear last night and only got Daedra Husks.
Interestinly my original/harvesting character didn't get the 50/50 node split.

Every node was based on the character level, not his crafting level. If he had the skill points he could have level 8 on all materials but only level 9 materials appear. This may be good for the future but bad for writs now. When One Tamriel comes out I may have no way of getting the materials.

my (only) toon is lvl 36 now. Think im mid 20's on clothier and woodworking, which im concentrating on. Have been pulling writs recently containing fellhide. Reading this thread I cant get to the areas that it drops as my quest line hasn't opened up yet (im still in Riven).

None of the guild traders has any in stock either so I my have to look further afield.

at level 33 you may be able to survive coldharbour, but you are 'underlevel', you will not start getting drops until you are level 37(ish). coldharbour enemies start at level 42 through 50 (if i remember correctly) you may of noticed you arent getting much XP either.

have you also considered trying your home factions final map (reapers march/the rift/bankorai) find the high
est level mobs they may drop the leather you need


coldharbour is not a DLC so the 50/50 drop rate does not apply there yet (it will once 1Tam drops)

CR135 character may be able to get drops, because they are technically level 50 so as long as they fight anything above level 45 they should get scraps. there is a delve down near the ship wreck, i think there are a few clanfear in there & the mobs are definatley level 50; i cant think of anywhere else of the top of my head sorry.

if you really want to do your writs you need to level up that level 33, once your character is fell hide level i would recommend stealing & laundering a lot of leather goods (building your own stock this way).
deconstructing stolen goods will give you 0-1 mat, laundering it first will give you 3 -10 mats, laundering can be expensive, but if you steal twice what you can launder you can fence the other half and typically break even
this method has the increased benefit of leveling your ledgerman & your crafts

Coldharbour is not a DLC, it's a standard zone. Until One Tamriel, what drops there should have nothing to do with character level or crafting level, only the zone level. Which is what makes it the ideal spot to search for fell hide in your case. Clannfear in Coldharbour were dropping fell hide for my partner and I about 1/3 of the time on Sunday (we were out there for a few hours to gather a small stack though since they dropped only 1 scrap at a time). And even though all my crafts are using level 10 materials and my character is CP160, I was finding ebony ore & birch & yew & ebonthread.

Are you sure you're in Coldharbour and on the live, not PTS, server? lol

Are you sure you're in Coldharbour and on the live, not PTS, server? lol

didnt even think to ask if they were accidnetally playing pts! LOL

Grind mobs and deconstruckt the medium armor pieces you get as loot to be able to get fell hide as fast as possible...

When I did grind one delve in Coldharbour I only ended up with 1 piece of Fell Hide gear. Still this is an improvement over not finding anything.

My crafter has now moved up to level 7 materials. My main character used for harvesting just moved up to level 8.

Now found the most random source.

My crafter alt is getting regular amounts of Fell Hide from killing the goats around the Wether's Cleft set gear crafting station.

It seems ironic spending ages grinding Clanfear in Coldharbour and get nothing but get regular drops from...goats?!

It is the kind of thing I might think someone was making up if I hadn't seen it for myself.

It might vary by character level. The harvesting character was level 36+ at the time with level 7 clothing. He has now made it to Coldharbour anyway at level 40 and clothing level 8. It may still be usefull as Fell Hide typicall was dropped in northern Cold Harbour and I have quite a way to go before I have unlocked that area.
