I'm still alive. If I get any lovely messages from my dear mod friends, I will pass along your condolences. They most assuredly adore me and send me the most sublime of messages to my inbox.
Not one single person reminiscing about 1.5 is saying that it was perfect ect ect, everyone has suggested 1.5 in addition to select balance components that have been made since. The thing is, 1.5 was the closest this game has had to a semblance of balance, everything since has been worse thanks to the CP system and removed soft caps.Agrippa_Invisus wrote: »I really despise some of the nostalgia I've been seeing around here lately. The "old days" were not the "good days" of ESO. ESO has remained a continuous problem child in regard to class and skill line balance.
The upcoming One Tamriel patch with its hordes of untested dungeon sets will only serve to exacerbate this instead of correct it.
I don't know how you can say 1.5 didn't have many open field fights for small groups, we honestly had more of those before FC removal, since blood porting meant that the ppl we killed didn't condense into blobs and come back to steamroll all the smallmans in the fields on their way to the next keep.GorraShatan wrote: »I mostly prefer today to 1.5 to be honest, though going farther back to 1.2 before the lag (I think? Or was 1.2 when the lag came?) does have some appeal.
In terms what's better today, I think:
Class/skill balance is mostly better today. It's not perfect, but at least magicka and stamina builds are each viable for each class. It's not Elder Staves Online anymore with everyone with an ounce of sense running light armour and desto/resto. It'd be nice to have more options for hybrid builds like there were though. I know Zen is trying to make that a that a thing with the new items sets they add, but so far it hasn't worked.
The lag (compared to 1.5, though not 1.2). Does everyone remember sitting in a fight where no skill would register for 10+ minutes? Yah, no thanks. The lag still isn't perfect, but it's a lot better than it was in 1.5.
Open field fights - you can't bloodport around the map anymore, so you actually get interesting and fun fights away from keeps. This is great and a big difference from 1.5 that I really enjoy.
What's worse:
Build diversity - even with more gear options out there, I feel there are a smaller number of "correct" sets people can wear to be competitive. Maybe I'm wrong here - crit builds were pretty OP in 1.5 - and maybe this will improve in One Tamriel with new and old sets in the mix. We'll see.
Ground oils - they may have been a bit stupid in terms of believably, but they were a pretty important tool in punishing zergs stacking up. It'd be really nice see them come back under a different name.
The "scale" of PvP - the absolutely huge and long keep fights that would happen in 1.5 were a lot of fun. I realize these caused issues in performance though, and were sustained by bloodporting and an over-reliance on camps though, so it may not be possible to recapture this fun without losing some of the pluses of the current meta.
