Does magicka recovery stop while casting?

Hi guys,
for fun I tried a full magicka recovery build. I managed to bring my MR to 3000+, but chain casting Combat Prayer depleted my magicka pool (40k) in few seconds.
I was really disappointed
Am I missing something?

✭As I recall, only a few skills like mist form disable magicka recovery. The issue with you running out of magicka from spamming combat prayer is, well... Ok let's say you can fire off 3 combat prayers in two seconds. If combat prayer costs 2.5k magicka, every two seconds you will find yourself down 4.5k magicka. If your max magicka is 36k, you will run out in 16 seconds. (Numbers pulled from thin air)
This is probably working as intended. If you'd want your magicka to last longer, use it fewer times in 2 seconds, maybe throw a heavy attack in there etc, increase your regen 3-fold, invest in reduced cost, or a combination of both.The generally amicable yet sporadically salty magplar that may or may not have 1vXed you in Sotha Sil. ✭✭✭✭✭No, but there are multiple factors starting with race, CP ans how you spent it.
Cost reduction is king. It's why bretton has best burst sustain (not suggesting race change. If max CP make sure 100 points are in magika cost reduction with the remaining 77 points into mag recovery.
Also the assumption is your in 5 light for the obvious reasons but if your in PvP I realize you may be in heavy. If so, this is a factor due to cost reduction.
I'm not sure why 3k magika recovery but I shoals each to their own. If you are in PvE that way high even for healing vet trials where some run slightly higher regen. Also, maybe you are hitting this heals a little to fast. Just a guess.
If using magika skills stopped regen we would all run out of magika because we would have no sustain.0 -

✭✭✭Well what did Combat Prayer cost? Base cost of Blessing of Protection is 3780 and you can do one of those every second. BUT, magicka regen only hits every 2 seconds meaning you will still run out of magicka really fast if you spam abilities like that.1 -
Avezack✭✭You really do not need spaming Combat Prayer, only every 8seg for the buffs. 3000MR + 40k MaxMagika is nice. With Healing Spring you will gain magica, not loss (Spaming) , and you will have good healing,

Raid healers do not use light attacks between heals. Dps so, but it's because it's an increase in dps.You all make sense
