Who else prefers the Veteran System?

Am I the only one who didn't like that they changed levels from Veteran to CP? The reason why I don't like it because after they changed it, I've been seeing a lot of players ask the same question, "Where is the best place to grind CP? / Where can I grind CP?"

I loved Veteran Ranks because even though it was a grind, but that grind contributed massively to your CP.

In the old system, the more VR 16 characters you made, the more CP you'd get. Each character you created would be a fresh new experience than the previous one because you're using a whole different skill set and wearing different gear. I reached the 501 cap on my 6th VR 16, and now I'm at 778 after the conversion.

In the new system, more players are sticking to only one character, and then they'd have to grind CP all the way to 531. Would you really want to grind from CP 160 to 531 on the same character?

I don't miss it in the least. I like being able to level a charachter to 50 and be done with it. It removed any semblance of work from the equation - I did not like grinding to v16 once let alone 8 times.

It wasn't just a grind... It was a slow punishing grind that wasn't fun in any way whatsoever. It was a slap in the face once you got to 50 to realize you now had to work your way up to another pointless number instead of just earning cp.

The grinding of CP and lack of vet levels are two different and quasi unrelated issues.

Players grinded CP when we had vet levels. I guarantee it. CP was just as important the. As it is now.

Additionally, the comment that more players are sticking to the same character with the new system is not correct. I know of know one that is playing only one character when they already have multiple.

Sorry but the original post is more about generalizations that do not hold up.

The difference is that you're grinding with different characters, versus just a single character.

You can still grind up to the CP cap on as many characters as you like, the only difference is that now you don't have to.

I hit the CP cap with 3 v16s and a v12. Thankfully, I did not have to grind my 4 other vets all the way up to v16 as well.

The VR -> CP conversion did not do everything I wanted, but it is still vastly superior to what we had before, at least for altoholics like me.

I personality hated the VR system.
Not to confuse that I also disagree with and do not support CP as far as gear and mats, and showing as some character level.

I completely support having Passives and I'd rather those only apply at post 50 for use

See the champion points I'm fine with as long as they are exclusively limited to being Passives. I do think the accumulation of certain trees should create one square to either the left or right as green, blue or red to distinguish progress using the unlocks in a tree.

Beyond that everyone should appear as level 50.
Skills stop at 50 so characters should as well.

NPCs should go beyond 50 but using the old VR tiers as a character level. So for example Vr 1-4 is level 50, Vr 5-9 is level 51, Vr 10-14 ,52 and Vr 15 is 53, Vr 16 is 54 and anything beyond is 55

This should've removed all these CP labels and shown all as level 50. Even NPCs

Now with this, if ZOS ever wanted to expand levels it would touch both character, and skills.

The veteran system wasn't really a system at all so I never liked it and honestly all VR1-9 was honestly was level 50 but they sought to create difficulty in stats which were not easy to understand which is why many are seperated on VR vs CP today.


Some of my opinions above have changed slightly from months ago but the overall opinion is the same.

I really don't miss those as someone with many, many alts.

If people worry about CPs, that's their prob. I'll stick to my usual healer, who has a bit more than 300 CPs, yet would not hesitate to bring in vMoL for a second. The diff between people who grind their way to max CPs, and people who actually play normally till max CPs is that the second group actually know their stuff at the end.

I am at CP cap, so the "making more alts contributes to CPs" is quite irrelevant, that's just a completely useless an artificial grind before being able to actually play a character.

As someone with way more alts than it's healthy to have... I'm actually with you on this @Kammakazi. Somehow I felt way more of a sense of accomplishment leveling each alt to the next vet rank.

Of course that meant that when I was doing group dungeons or whatever I would always use one of only 3 or so different characters (the ones that were VR16), while now I can use any of 13 different characters without feeling like I may be hindering my group.

So I guess I miss vet ranks, I liked vet ranks, but now that I'm used to the level 50 + CPs system I'd find it painful to go back to vet ranks.

It was nice if it was your first time. But having to level each additional character to vet 16 was too much, and also a reason why I didn't bother to make new characters until I learned the vet system was going away This way of "sharing" your max CP with other characters is truly astounding.

You only have to lvl up to 50 and you're already maxed out and can use max gear with any additional character you make. Now that they have that issue solved they have to focus on making hybrid builds truly effective without using a 5 piece set

Vet ranks were horrible for the game! A massive, meaningless grind.

Back when I was a typical Elder Scrolls fan and ESO just launched on PS4, I joined five random 500 man guilds. All of them were bustling, with hundreds of players consistently online per guild everyday. After about a month, this dropped to 2-4 players online per guild at any given time (sometimes 1.... ahem -_-)

Innumerable amounts of players quit when they saw the grind it would take to level up all the way (at the time V14). This included all of my friends who were excited for the game as well, and I'd never even blame them since it was so boring and killed the game for them.

When you hit Lvl 50, you should be able to play endgame. Many players were unaware of Vet Ranks. Other knew about them but did not know how much XP it would take to achieve 14 Vet Ranks. Honestly, the system was utter madness and highly unfit for this game. Our current CP-only system is much better !

Let's not even start on how we had PC transfers raking in the AP by slaughtering new/undergeared characters with no CP or battlescaling. Vet Ranks just added to the feel that you needed to reach max level, but the grind was horrible. Also you could not switch character midway through or you would essentially restart the grind.

VR system was a much worse grind. CP gives you more freedom to "pick and play" the class and build you want, more options to customize your character with the constellations and so on.

Everytime I reached Max VR on a character I didn't feel any sense of accomplishment, it was rather a relief from a slow and painful process. Especially way back then when there wasn't XP pots, IC, OO not training traits.

Actually I'm quite glad VR are gone for good!

I never grind so that aspect doesn't bother me either way, but I did enjoy the challenge of levelling all of my characters to V16 via questing before. Now, I tend to ditch them at 50. I wish we were allowed to choose if we wanted instant max level characters or not because I would much prefer to be able to level them all up individually.

CP ranks are better IMO.

When running dungeons, CP level is a better gauge of possible skill than vet levels were.

I have seen zero evidence to support the notion that more players are choosing to play one character rather than multiple characters since cp replaced vr.

Since it doesnt matter where the cp come from, there is no push in the system to restrict to just one. Players i know personally have bought new char slots which doesnt support grinding one char.

Finally, i recall seeing plenty of where grind threads before vr died. Asking about grinding doesnt tell you which char they will use.

I actually think they're both terrible gauges of possible skill. I've seen great players with barely any CPs, and I've seen awful players at the CP cap. All either vet ranks or CPs really measure is how much XP the person has earned, and it's very possible to easily grind out tons of XP without ever learning to play.

But as far as it goes, CPs do provide a better measure of how much a player has actually played the game than vet ranks did, and for most people the more they've played the game the better they are likely to be at it, so your point does have some merit.

I don't have a problem with either system really. When you have a character hit 50 now they are considered max level which is fine. For that character you still have to redo everything that gives you a skill point whether it be dungeon runs, gathering sky shards or main quest lines. So there's still tedious work that you need to do to get them with high enough skill points to be happy with.

I don't really care to see someone's CP # though, what's really the point in that? I look at some of these high numbers and think..."dude, get a life outside ESO".... and then wish I could play the game more....DOH!

I prefer the new system. Once my character reaches Level 50 I can craft one last set of gear that will last me the rest of the game (or at least until I replace it trial gear).

CP all the way the Vet and Hybrid system sucked and it just had another complexity level (especially the hybrid system) which made it harder to balance. I think this system let's everyone improve their sustain, defense and attack vs having to trade on one of the 3 and it let's you customize to your playstyle and in ways that accent your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.

I've always played 1 character. I do see myself more tempted to make alts now vs in vet/hybrid system because of the CP account wide system. That said, I understand it does suck if you like lots of playstyles, resource pools, and classes having the CP as account wide, but it is a fair balance for the lack of needing to grind each character to vet 16.

CP really gives you a good indicator of the knowledge level of the player in general because the more CP the more time played.

Vet ranks gave a great indication of knowledge of that class and playstyle because of the time and amount of activities you had to do in order to get the top vet ranks.


IMHO, Vet was a great gate for PUGs in dungeons, while CP is a great gate for guild admission or high level content as you've learned a lot of mechanics by time you get to 400+ CP (and gotten much more powerful).

I like having more to work for, but let's face it... Zenimax is always gonna cater to the people that hate grinding, which is most of the playerbase.

All I can do is take solace in the fact I had a VR16 before that system went under...
