Was Wondering If Console Text Chat Was Suppose To Automatically Translate.

Hi. I really love console text chat. (After having some hard time get use to it) console text chat has made me a little to more social? No? Anways Console Text Chat is a good tool to have. Especially in Cyrodiil. (And non pvp).

However. I thought if I type something in Console text chat. Does the Console text chat automatically translate my words to differint language and vise
versa. Least that's what I thought. I was wrong.

Earlier today in Orsinium. Someone was seeking help for a boss. Via console text chat. But in differint language. I thought to myself. Why it not translate no offense. Then it all made sense to me. Of what happen the other day. Why rest of my group members not follow group leader orders in pvp. I think Group leader thought the same of automatic translate.

So since I really love to play with other members who speaks differin't languages on EU server. I for one will never play on NA server. No offense. Just me. Yes you may say that I should switch server. But I refuse. I feel happy hanging around with others. Even with language barriers. For are we not mankind. Each and everyone of us? To learn from one another. To teach each other and to not only have fun. But to. Also enjoy in what we learn. If we do so choose to learn.

My point is. I have learned something new. That text chat don't automaticly translate to myeself or others. So I have a work around. Using a translation app my friends and learn there language if you wish and want to.

I for one. Love to learn new language. Currently studing French. Know some simple stuff. But not much. (Must admit I need to practice more though)
So in conclusion. I will write in 2 ways and since I always PvP. Make stuff kinda simple for me. Least via in English and Some in French

For example. I was attacking EP keep Saw EP heading in keep. Others not know. My AD group only speak French. So I open console text chat. Input Zone area thing. I will keep it simple. French first and then English. "Rouge. Red" Not only I warned them and others. Via console text chat.

I don't have to worry that text chat don't translate but I also play it safe. (Except for those who speak didferint language also. Like German, Italian and so forth. Then I will use translate app or google translate. Not 100% accurate though.) It is also fun to translate. Also is it just me that console text chat not automatically translate?

Now for those who keep ruining my posts. Brigning negativity and getting insightfuls. Please don't do it here. Please keep it civil. I don't disrepect any of you. Please don't do it to me thanks. I love console text chat.

Honestly I wouldn't ever consider it would auto translate.

Tbh, it's easier for me to understand simple written sentences in many European languages than the monstrosities machine translators often produce. It might not be enough to explain an elaborate boss strategy, but in most situations you need only a handful of terms to communicate with your group.

The only game I have ever played that would auto translate had a set of canned messages. You pick the one you want, and the recipient would see the canned version in their selected language. (You could type your own messages, too, of course! But only the drop down messages translated.)

While I admit that an auto translation would be really neat, I am not sure it could handle the abbreviations and misspellings in chat. ("u wanna run daly dongon w me 4 keyy?")

Although perhaps Zenimax might be willing to expand on their canned communications like "Would you like to join a group?" and company... That would be a great compromise, I think, and they already have a solid start.

It would certainly be helpful but I doubt there's a way to do it. Plus a lot can get lost in translation.

"I need healing" might become "I have spider feet"

It might be an interesting feature, but wow, would it be hard to implement. You would have to have some way to denote the source language, then the target language, which might be different depending on who reads the message. Or, it would have to know to translate any text to a certain language, which would require it to recognize the language. Then, there is the lag as I doubt ZOS would install a Babel Fish Server so it would have to poll an external server, then post the results. And, we all know how well those translations come out.

Just so you know there are at least two language channels other than English, French and German I think. Perhaps there is a Spanish one, but I have not checked on that for a long time. Of course I am away from the game right now, so I can't check.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

i know the emotes auto translate, and as emotes now automatically appear in console chat i believe they are auto stranslated, but 'custom' entries (for want of a better term) remain as written.

as others have said expanding the options under the emotes could help

a few i would like to see
    can i join your group?
would you like to join my group?
no i dont want to trade with you go away!
    enemy zerg on my body!

XBOX messages do auto translate - this may be why the OP assumed game chat would too (no idea if PS4 auto translates too)

The emotes on top. For example. High, good job, good bye and such are automaticly translated. You have good point though.
