Before I beat him for the first time I died at 10%, then 1% (!!!).
You can never neglect your defenses in that arena. It ain't over 'til it's over, as they say.
Omg I am so sorry for youIt was like one light attack left... But I know that people can be distracted and they forget about defensive when it comes to execute the boss. I had the same during my first run through vMA when I was killed at 3% of the final boss' health...
Good luck next time!
I havent done whole vMA yet but I am now at stage 5. Havent tried it yet but I hope its not as hard as some people say.

Sorry to say so but it is.
Stage 1 to 4 is a piece of cake compared to stage 5.
But don't worry...keep at it. Make sure to read this guide: there is a great step by step for the last boss.
In the end, I don't find this stage that hard now that I am used to the mechanics of it. I still die a few times throughout the stage, while I run through stage 1 to 4 without even using any Sigil.
The most important thing to note here is your priority kill list.
It's probably the first stage where if you don't focus on the right target, you're doomed. Stage 1 to 4 are much more forgiving of who you target. (Stage 3 ranged attackers are annoying but more forgiving than stage 5 overall)
Good luck!

IMO, stage 5 wasn't too hard. Just keep up on the ranged adds so they don't 1-shot you.
Also, take your time with the final boss of the round; it's not a DPS race until she gets to ~30%.
