Really confused about people's big spell power numbers

I am still relatively a new player (6 months) but I am having trouble seeing the path from where I am now to where people routinely say they are. I see Magicka DPS players say things like spell power of 2600-3200 unbuffed with crit of 65% and magicka regen of 1400 are attainable. (There are many, many posts on these forums where people state this like it is "normal") They also say you must use thief mundus stone, so the spell power stone is not being used. I also see many Magicka people using destruction staff for better range and weaving

So I am 220 cp and my gear isn't good but I am trying to figure out the huge gap between my stats and the ones mentioned above.

I have all purple cp 150 gear except my weapons which are purple cp 160.

My stats unbuffed as a Templar:

52 percent crit, 980 magica regen, running thief mundus. If I run Inner Light (which I do) that bring crit up obviously. But we are talking unbuffed here.

Using Purple cp 160 Desto staff: 1470 spell power,
Using 2 Purple sharpened cp 160 torags swords: 1750 spell power

I have the "standard" set of will power cp 160 arcane jewlery (which took all my gold I made in last 6 months) , with Magicka Cost Reduction enchants
Purple cp 150 Julianos 5 set.

I did this setup so I can put monster shoulder/helm when I get them without breaking a crafted set, so for now I have purple head/shoulders of seducers to help with magica regen.

Ok so upgrading weapons to gold will be +200 spell power which would bring me to:

Staff: 1670 spell power,
Sharpened torags swords: 1950 spell power

Upgrading all the rest of my gear to gold will have minimal impact to spell power, right?

So how do I get from 1950 to 3000 using DW swords? And when people site their numbers are they always stating DW swords? because I don't see any way to make up the difference with a staff.. which is a huge 300 spell power difference.

The only thing left seems to be monster drop shoulder/head and I don't see how they will add enough.

    Just a Quick view from me on improving spell dam, im sure the experts will give you a more concise list, but, in short all the small bits add up. So being CP160 helps, Gold quality helps, the sets you use, I.e. Some favour regen some spell damage, some crit. You cant peak them all. Echants are key, you can add 500 on jewellery alone instead of regen, enchants on weapons can proc 350+ SD too, plus your buffs, potions. I know you said unbuffed but im never sure that all the stats quoted on here truely are unbuffed. ;)

    Dual wield passive improves damage done, not wep or spell damag stat. But you exact damage from the extra weopon too, and set bonus of a 12 piece setup. With Krags, Julianos etc that 5th piece is an big jump.

    To answer your questoon tho I don't know how people run huge magika and huge spell damage and huge crit and huge regen however.

    All Gold 160 CP, except Willpower.

    2 Torug's pact weapons
    Any staff but vMA ones are best
    5 Julianos armor
    2 Kena
    3 Willpower with Spell Power enchantments

    Thief mundus

    This is pretty much whatever they are running and would give you what you want. But this is not even close to whatever is the maximum stats. It is possible to get 4.5k+ spell damage, 50k+ magicka, 60% crit.

    1) Legendary weapons 160cp is the first thing to do, DW for NB and templar for DPS on the first bar. (it is very expensive)

    2) Then at least two enchants spell damage on jewelry, the third enchants can be recovery magicka

    (NB : Sorcs have more spell damage because of their passives or abilities.)

    3) All weapons sharpened

    4) All Julianos set CP 160 purple at least all divines

    5) Molag Kena 1 shoulder or head

    6)Torug pact x2 on weapon or 2 Vicious death Weapons + shoulder or head (depends of Kena) (or use Valkin monster set)

    7) Drink essence of spell power. (now, you should have between 2000 and 2400 in spell damage without potion)

    8) Mundus stone : Thief > shadow > Apprentice > Mage... but at the begining you can go with atronach for your recovery


    EDIT : For the end PvE content, I prefer Twice born star for the health/stam and two mundus stone, you loose a little dps if you group is not buff, but you reach better DPS if your group can buff you and your mates !

    Thanks for all the feedback. OK so I need to change enchants on 2 jewelry to spell power. That will be a big jump. And get good head/shoulder monster sets, which obviously can take from now until forever :)

    Am I right in assuming though that when wielding a staff I will always be 300 sp behind DW?

    For a magicka templar use 2 swords with the last passive for dual wield + 1 fire destruction staff, all sharpened.

    Oh, sorry I have missed something : Weapon Enchants on one of your sword and on your destruction staff ! (an other enchant is good like fire enchants for your second sword)


    I explain why you have to enchants dual wield too when you are a templar :

    When you are using puncturing sweep hit at the end of its channel time with your two swords (light attack) ! It is a way to proc easily the enchants on your swords !


    But you can have two fire destruction staves, but only if you use to do light attack :)

    2600 spell power unbuffed is easy atteinable, especially on dual wield...

    Dual Wield sword: 1535 (I think? Might be a tad more)
    3x Willpower Jewelry with gold glyph of spell damage : 708 (3x 174 + 186)
    Kagrenac's Hope 5 piece bonus: 224 (could go Julianos for 300, but Kag's gives your some much needed recovery)
    simple damage (1x molag kena, 2x torug, etc.) : 129

    = 2596 spell damage UNBUFFED



    OP, what you really need is those Spell damage glyph for your jewelry.. if you cannot afford gold ones, get some purple, they give 160 spell damage. You really need to get your primary weapons gold, before anything else.

    Wanna get big spell damage numbers, you have to min max, at least weapons should be gold with gold enchantments on everything & spel dmg enchants on all jewelry
