CP180: Question to ZOS!

CP180 materials have been datamined for awhile now, and I can't help but think that the level cap will increase again one day soon. Problem is, I don't know how soon.

We are approaching Q4 2016. Afterward is Q1 2017. The beginning of a year strikes me as a perfect time to raise the level cap. It's not something I personally want to ever happen again, but this thought has recently affected a big decision I will have to make.

First I need to wait until Shadows of the Hist releases on PS4 so I can grind out my gear. Afterward I need to decide whether to upgrade all 7 pieces of my light armor to Legendary quality or not. 56 Dreugh Wax and 7 Kutas are on the line here.

Can we please get an ETA on CP180 so we can store Gold materials accordingly? That's all I needed to ask. Thank you!

    Would be nice to know.

Most MMOs increase the level cap with the release of a big DLC, or 'expansion'. Tamriel One seems to be the closest thing to this. Maybe then?
With Zos's tiny DLCs recently, nothing deserves a level cap increase. Something akin to Wrothgar is even too small in most MMO-terms to deserve an increase, but seeing as that has been the biggest DLC we've had and looks like we're going to have... Tamriel One seems to be the only time I can see it happen.

If they increase the cap with a small-ass weak DLC, with nothing but a few dungeons or something to go with it.. There'll be an uproar lol

There will be an uproar either way. I just want to know when so I don't have to go broke catching up.

Hopefully never. The level cap raise from VR14 to VR 16 was a complete disaster and left us with THREE endgame jewelry sets for about 6 months. Gear diversity has finally increased to where everyone isn't running the same builds.

The practice of increasing the max level, dropping a DLC, then making that DLC the only place you can farm the new materials (at a ridiculous grind rate) is frustrating, unethical and PayToWin.

The CP max cap (522?) can be raised as many times as they want while keeping the gear cap at 160. There is NO good reason to EVER raise the gear cap again. People want to actually play the content, not keep farming for the gear forever.

Unlike some people, who only play for rewards and achievements, there are the rest of us that play the game for the games sake, and don't need ever increasing numbers or a vertical progression treadmill to feel special about ourselves.

It is an mmo and it is definitely expected to increase more in the future. But I like the pace this is going compared to ffxiv which pretty much an crazy relic weapon grind after every 6 weeks :s

I'm the same. Increasing gear level would cause me to stick to 1-2 character and forget the rest.

I play for the challenge of hard content and fun of it..... not to grind vMA or flowers for hours every day -_-

Exactly. That's why I created this thread. I simply don't want to waste my rare materials. An ETA is all I need.

Once everything scales, raising the cap is pointless. All it will do is nerf everyone who already has 160 gear. Most will move up to 180, the mobs will be 180, but to maintain what you have now you will have to farm all the dropped gear you already have and farm mats for all the crafted gear. And after all that farming you are right back to where you are now. Having the game scale removes any reason to ever increase the level cap again. And I've heard many people I play with say if/when they do raise the cap they are done with the game.

As for the other games do it argument. Other games don't scale everything as this game does with DLCs and will do with everything when One Tamriel hits. Other games raise the cap only for those who buy the new expansion. The expansions are far larger and have far more end game content than this game has. In other games the old gear won't scale to the new levels and the crafted gear will be exclusive to that expansion. This game isn't other games and raising the level cap is pointless.

NO ! NO TO GEAR LEVEL INCREASE !

Seriously already takes to long to gold gear cause gold material drop rates are garbage and the fact you need 10X the amount of materials to craft CP160 gear from CP150. What is CP170 gonna cost 20X and CP180 gonna cost 30X since crafted gear is so much easier and more powerful than dropped gear ?

Seriously crafting is already a pain as is from either not finding enough raw materials when you go out farming or the material it self costing way to much cause merchant guilds are greedy and are clearly abusing player for gold.

For once I agree with you! I truly hope they never increase the level cap.

Creating new and interesting gear for the players is perfect. Some arbitrary grind because everything you worked for just became weak would suck.

I just want info to not waste my tons of gold materials.

Not to mention all the RNG drop item sets that keeps you grinding for days or months just for the right trait. Unless they introduce a way to improve our items level or change their trait with crafting skill Im gonna hate a level cap increase.

Of course they should increase it, and hopefully more often in the future. It's a MMORPG, and hunting new equipment and upgrades, grinding is a big part. It's what keeps it interesting.

Sure I would hate to lose all gear, monster sets and other things, but this can be solved for lazy people by implementing an upgrade option on gear, but make it insanely expensive if going that route. Of course they could also offer a crown store upgrade item for the even lazier ones.

And for the love of God, make traits changeable so we don't have to get 79764579 ones of that item we are hunting in crap traits. Or simply make all traits appealing.

If I'm stuck with the same red ruby looking weapons and tier for a longer time I might quit out of boredom.

    +1

it's exactly this point...if everything scales (and the only "safe" way they can do One Tamriel without breaking everything is to scale all zones) then there is absolutely no point to raise gear cap other than trying to keep players farming in existing content without releasing any new DLC's.

let's face it, look how they artificially make existing content used again with TG and DB grinds

So long as they get news sets that are better then yes...in terms of just having a cap increased to just farm new mats to craft the same same crap for a minor increase no. There is no point. It's just a bigger gap between noobs and the rest.

Would there be any point on making trials cp180 and making us farm mats for a cp180 set of Tbs and putting in a grind for cp180 jewelery? Not much point it's all relative.

Add about 20 more sets that are cp170-180 only then maybe.

I wouldn't expect it until the quarter AFTER One Tamriel launches. ZOS fully expects to get new and returning players, it would be a tough sell to then drop a level increase at or near the same time.

To people who think the cap should never raise; look into any MMO. Seriously. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. There is always new gear tiers. Vvardenfell would be a perfect time, they could introduce chitlin type materials etc.

I'm guessing with the next big DLC as the top mats have been Rubedite since August 2015.

The thing is, isn't the next MAJOR event 'One Tamriel'... the one after that, the DLC when we get player housing? I'd expect a level raise for player housing, but not One Tamriel.

If they are going to CP180 anytime soon, I'd guess it would come with One Tamriel. They are going to have to revisit all content to balance with the new scaling, and I doubt they want to revisit that soon after with yet another balance update (though likely much smaller) to scale everything to CP180. Frankly, it's just less expensive for them to do both together than to do it as two separate releases.

I would rather see gear stay at cp160 and do away with the CP cap. Progression through the CP system more matches with the type of game ZOS keeps saying they are striving for.

But with Tamriel Unlimited, it didn't involve any changes to the game... it was basically, "we're doing away with subscriptions"... with One Tamriel, it's a complete revamp of how the game is played... so I'd definitely call that an update.

    {Tongue firmly in cheek}

I can tell you exactly when the CP gear will increase. This is a mmo so expect this to happen. But when?

    I'll tell you when.

Right after I have gathered 940 ancestor silks, accumulated 56 Dreugh Wax and 7 Kutas and then make my gear all gold and CP 160.

    Like the day after.

Like the day when I no longer have 56 Dreugh Wax, 940 ancestor silks and 7 kutas because I thought this is what I have been playing for since nineteen canteen!

It's like when you spend money to get 5500 crowns for £31.99 and the day after this they have a 40% sale!

I upgraded all my gear and weapons on my VR 14 because I finally could and they did say that the VR ranks were going to be removed. So no more increases in VR ranks then, I mean what would be the point in that?

Whammo! I no sooner made my new gear to VR 14 and they raised the cap to VR16. I never learn! ;)

There is no reason to raise the cap ever. As mentioned previously, this game now scales in all zones in dungeons. Raising the cap does nothing but force us to regrind gear that requires months or more to acquire and only serves to put us right back where we were before. It doesn't help to balance anything. It's not necessary as some seem to think. It doesn't have to be done because other games do it. Aside from forcing a regrind, can anyone think of a reason why this has to even be a thing? I can't seem to think of a solid argument for a cap increase at all other than to stick it to the players and that is a negative reason from a player point of view. Nothing positive comes from it. Any positives that might come from a cap increase could be added to the game in other ways that won't infuriate a solid chunk of your player base.
