Toon size

It would be amazing if you guys could change the size of the different races so that, for example, Bretons/Nords/High Elfs/etc.. could be shorter. Maybe near the size of wood elf's smallest setting? It's an aesthetics issue at heart, and my opinion only, but it would be nice, and would make me more inclined to play other races. Just a thought I had. Thanks for listening.

I played a wood elf once in Oblivion and lost my mind because every NPC was staring down at me.

    Tall characters for me, please.

My bosmer is nimble and small and that is how she is intended to be - I imagine her to be hard to hit, because she has a small silhouette and a much lower mass allows her to zick-zack quickly and so she is hard to catch, even this does not matter in this game. It is just a role play thing and I enjoy her to be small and nimble among all the tall and bulky nords - she lives in EP and her head is barely reaching the shoulder height of an average nord.

I made one of mules a Woodelf and as short (and ugly) as possible. Here, you can see he is barely taller than the bed headboard, and his dog is half the height he is

Mine has the largest ears possible and pointy, it makes them a dominant part of her appearance, but she looks so cute and I really like to play her. She is wearing a darkstride set and well-fitted pieces - so she can sprint like crazy and for a very long time - the darkstride set was buffed to 50% reduction in sprinting costs.

I don't know if you can tell, but my Altmer Templar is almost as tall as Lyris Titanborn. People have even commented on how freakishly tall she is.

I will have to get her to the same place as the Bosmer and take a comparison shot with her.

Yes, and it is good that she is tall, Altmer are supposed to be the tallest race in Tamriel and the fastest - well, based on the Oblivion values for characters. A lot of the Nord woman on Bleakrock island in EP are rather tall as well and my little Bosmer is often not even reaching their chest height. It's funny to see the comparison and it would be even wilder with your Altmer, I guess.

Lol i'm not asking for "midgets," i'm asking for an option to make them slightly shorter. Wood elfs are by no means midgets. If you play ffxiv, lalas are midgets. Wood elfs to me, are the norm 5' tall(ish) race, where as everyone else is 6-7'' tall. For those of us that don't want a "freakishly" tall toon, it would be nice to have more options than just wood elf, for a shorter toon.

But that is what happens if you are a foot or 2 less tall - you will just reach their shoulder or chest height - mine is exactly like you say.

It kind of seems that I can make a shorter Woodelf than other characters. I also have a Breton that I made as short as possible, the same way I made the Bosmer, and I think the Bosmer is shorter. I will have to compare that against something like the bed in my first screen shot.

Of course, if you want to send me 6000 crowns, I can pull up the chargen and take a screen shot of the height slider for all 3....

OP, Bretons are short. Orc, Altmer and Nords are the tall races.

I would love to make a short, fat orc...that would be amazing. :)

Make them wider in shoulder and hips - if they are female - this lets them appear to be much less tall than they really are. My Bosmer is a sturdy one, she has a good figure, but she is athletic, and this makes her look even less tall than she is.

I have to say when I started out with my bosmer lady, I did not expect to like her that much as I do now. she is as well the one which has the least problems with outfits, pretty much all looks good on her - with a few exceptions.

I'm sorry, but as far as I know, the nord and altmer height sliders have higher ceilings than the other races, and inversely the bosmer can get even shorter than the rest already. Isn't this already a thing?

yes, you are right with this - it is already in the boundary settings in a way. And maybe even gender is taken into account - my female Altmer is towering over all of my other female characters, but not over the male ones. My males are imperial, khajiit and argonian.

That doesn't make someone a midget lol. An MMO is about variety(which is the spice of life after all), otherwise you have 99% tall toons, and 1%(wood elf) toons. ESO needs more variety in the height department, in my opinion.

That's not really the issue i'm talking about. I'm talking about height in general from the shortest to the tallest. Wood elf is shortest(and the only "short" race), where as all the other races, "seem" way taller than the shortest wood elf setting, even Bretons at the shortest setting, are much taller than wood elfs.

I chose mine to be overall not that tall - even the altmer - because I think female characters are a bit too skinny in ESO and I had to compensate with the height for it. I like my characters to be slender and athletic, but not skinny or even anorexic. Well, not my males though, they are athletic, but well fed, and in average a good amount older than my females.

I agree, the skinny thing is a bit much, looks a lil aesthetically unpleasing to the eye. Kudos to ESO on the "Posterior" slider! more games need this (looking at you FFxiv w/ your flat butts!).

But this is an MMO set in the Elder Scrolls universe. There are defined racial standards, which have been well documented over centuries of Tamrielic history, and a few decades of real life, human time.

ESO racial sizing is appropriately aligned with that lore. You wanting to change it to be more like other MMO's you've played, is not.

I am just looking at the height differences in Oblivion - actually the differences are not really significant - Altmer are 10% taller than the average character, Nord and Orc 6% taller and Redguard males 3% taller, while the Redguard female is average sized.

When it comes to smaller races, Breton males and Bosmer females are average sized, while the other gender are 5-10% smaller than average, with the Bosmer male being the smallest - the female is average sized in Oblivion.

So the tallest Altmer is compared to the smallest male Bosmer 22.2% taller. If we assume the Bosmer to be 5ft, the altmer woudl be just a bit over 6ft - there are not really huge differences like we expect them to be.

LOL that's a fictional history, and in a fictional history things can be added, and i'd love to see where in the Lore it says that there was never in the history of Tamriel, a short Breton, or a short Nord... If you can provide that, than I would concede to your statement. But i'd still want to see more variety in height, no matter what. Variety is much needed ^^

Hmm.. makes sense. As it was stated a few comments ago, I think its really about the skinny look of the toons, which makes them feel a lot taller than they may actually be. But, whether its the skinny thing, or just an issue of them being too tell (for me), i'd like a small tweak here and there.

You might want that, but it seems to me that ESO has done that quite well already - maybe even a bit more than it should be. I just gave the numbers for how they are stated for TES:Oblivion. There is not a big difference between the average size of the races - the highest difference in average size is just about 1ft.

Well, there are as well weight relations in the table - we could now investigate which races are more chubby than others, but this is a bit futile, don't you think?
