Even after the mult-crafting / decon addition, I am still of the mindset that RNG ticks each individual time the action happens - regardless of amount - so I still do it in the smallest amounts, and drops seem about the same as they always were. Mote times = more RNG checks, I imagine.

You should have got about 4 (1 per 200), but that sample size is incredibly small. Not enough to warrant being upset or to draw any type of conclusion. Go refine about 100,000, and it will all even out, I assure you.

Now you know why bots are such a problem. Bots are the only real way to farm enough in a reasonable amount of time to get enough tempers for anything

@Katahdin This is complete nonsense. I have thousands of gold mats, and I am not a bot. It's called crafting writs. Outside of surveys (which you get from writs), I have maybe spent 3-5 hours total just random mat farming? It is wildly inefficient. 20-30 minutes a day doing writs, maybe 1 hour a week grabbing surveys, and you will be swimming in gold mats.

Maybe not overnight, but I have never purchased a gold mat in this game unless it was listed for an absurd discount. All 17 of my toons have bags overflowing with gold gear as well. Last time I counted, I had over a thousand pieces of gold gear that I had upgraded.

You don't need to bot to have gold mats. Stop spreading nonsense and learn how the game actually works.

EDIT: and holy Necro, Batman. That said, refine rates on these things havent moved in 5 years as far as I can tell.

Rosin is the least used of the three so I have quite a bit. I run out of wax and alloy frequently.

Do people still think the general drop rate is a little over 5 gold mats per 1000 raw ones, irrespective of craft (wood/metal/cloth)? Perhaps in the 5 1/2 range? That's where I came out when I was tracking it.

It is on average 1 gold mat per 200 raw. So yes, exactly 5 gold per 1000 on average. No difference by craft.

Well, if you look at the prices for the different goldmats you can get a hint on how rare they are.

    Dreugh wax: about 6-7k /each
    Tempering alloy: about 8-10k /each
    Rosin: 2-3k

Supply/demand. I think they all have the same chance of dropping but on average people want more tempers for armor than simply a shield or staff.

Those prices are from 3 years ago. Wish Rosin was that cheap now...

Not sure what the prices are now, but rosin is still the cheapest.

On Xbox NA its the most expensive of the 3.

    Wax 5k
    Temp5-6k
    Rosin 7k

It's crazy how different it is by platform.

    On PC NA it's
    Wax 7k
    Temp 5k
    Rosin 2.5k

Everybody golds weapons. Golding armor is ... not as consistent.

I refine in batches of about 2k to 3k when I do a survey run. I just do max refine.

I have more than 500 of each plus 30 jc golds - so I’ve done this a bit.

Sometimes I do better than 1/200 gold tempers to raw mats , sometimes worse.

    It averages over time.

we need more wooden stuff, imo. Mastic is pricy, you can get it only from (outside of decon) shields, bows and staves.

Its been a while since I have done it, but when I refine mats, it's typically after a lot of surveys (last time i collected surveys, I had over a thousand of them). Needless to say, you end up with a lot of raw mats (certainly can be well into 5 figures). I have done this several times over the years. I have never seen what I would call a significant deviation from the 1/200 number on any mat type.

I think a lot of people let their own perception bias their perception of the results (which they likely never tracked all that closely to begin with).

For example: I have at least 4 times more rosin than any other gold mat type, and not couting jewelry crafting, Wax is always the scarcest one in my bank. Well that makes sense. I mostly play a DPS (light and medium armor) and the VMA staff and Bow has been meta since forever. I almost never use rosin anymore. That said, keeping 17 toons in gold gear can chew threw a lot of wax. If I hadnt kept the receipts over the years, I might be under the false impression that rosin drops more than wax, but I am fairly confident that is not the case.

I kept a spreadsheet over many 10s of 1000s of mats, and my figures were very consistently in the 5.something range. As the total sample got larger, the gap vs. 5.0 firmed up for me. Unwisely, I threw away my data, so I'm certaintly not expecting you to accept my results over your own -- but please don't talk down to me with veiled accusations of mathematically ignorant casual empiricism.

When I was tracking I was thinking one every 150. Were a few nights where I had an adult beverage or two though so my numbers could be off.

Oh and the event that would give you a container for doing the writ dailies I was running 15 characters through all the writs every day so I still have a bunch of rosin and the other stuff from that.

Make sure you have the passive to boost your chances of getting the rare drops. It doesn't make it much better but it helps a little.
