Melee Magicka Weapons?!?

    Of course, for that to work well, hybrid characters might have to be a thing again, and currently... they aren't. Well, not a very effective thing at least (make hybrid builds great again - bring back attribute softcaps!)

    go look at castlevania order of ecclesia that main characters weapons are what we need and theyd fit just fine in with the lore as we had weapon summons for the longest time in elder scrolls.

    They are lazy...new content is all they care about these days

    I mean...we've been wearing purple jewels for four years because of their laziness...why would they give magplars something they could use that synergized with their toolkit?

    If you don't tell us what those are, we won't know. I only dimly remember a whip in some ancient castlevania I once played...

    As for weapon summons... we have those already, in a way. The red daggers or bow from nightblade skills, the golden spears from templar skills, the fire whip from DK skills, fighters guild crossbow or dawnbreaker, etc.

    Or if you meant summoned weapons, well, those wouild -not- be "magical weapons", but magica-summoned stamina weapons. You'd magic up a sword, and then use stamina skills to hit someone with it, that's how it worked for those back in old TES games, and that's how it'd work in ESO, only that those summoned weapons would come without set bonus, without rune enchantment and without temper improvement, so noone but NPCs would use them...

    But the basic difference between "stamina weapon" and "magica weapon" is what you use to make it hit harder.
    • Stamina weapons like swords and such are supposed to rely on a characters bulging muscles and physical prowess to do their damage.
    • Magica weapons like spells and such are supposed to rely on a characters sharp mind and mystic power to do their damage.
    Now, a "melee magica" -weapon- would not be "magic up a axe, then hit someone with it" as I underastand it, but a magica-based weapon for melee ranges. Which brings us back full circle:

    My magplar is basically melee even while using a lightning staff with sweeps being the main spammable.
    A trickster; both light and dark, heroic and villainous, foolish and wise.

    that specific castlevania game has the weapons im refering to. ranging from rapiers to beams of light that you can use as a beam or sword if you equip 2 of them.

    There are only 2 Weapon Skill Lines out of 6 with Magicka abilities and focus on Magic and Magicka. The fact the rest are Stamina and focus on Melee actually counteracts the serious lack of Stamina-based Class Skills.

    They cover each other basically, and if Weapon Skills are not an issue you can easily use Dual Wield or 1h + Shield for what they offer as items and not skill lines.

    Right, because mages don't focus on "weapon skills" so it makes sense. A lot of the magicka skill are class skills anyway. Stamina characters (fighters) focus on weapon skill usage. Magicka characters (Mages/Healers) focus on class skill usage.

    Melee magicka weapons could be some sort of flails imbured with magicka (for tanky ppl) or some sort of spectral/conjured weapons. Who knows, maybe even quaterstaves with fun design.
    These staves could have different effects, taken from other weapon skill lines we have. For example, these could transform into a weaker version of elemental staff wielded by 1h, ofc. On the other hand, the could transform into one handed sword, having the way to use regular 1h&s skill like pierce armor, heroic slash and similar. Only thing these modular weapons should not do is to be on same power level as normal weapons of that type. This would give benefits to magicka melee users and for a magicka cost instead of stamina, yet there will still be some sort of balance.

    I think mele magicka skill like like the datamined one hand one rune would be ace...

    Also when a Battlemage class roles out...maybe one of their class lines is to use all weapons with either magkica or stam. (which ever value is higher) with a combination of class skills.

    Would give that class a whole different playstyle than the rest. would be neat.

    Well, yes an no. I want my melee magblade to use 2 swords. I use concealed weapon as my spammable (although hard with recent sustain changes) so i actually use the swords as melee. Yes, i could use staffs with it and yes it's not even a weapon skill. But I want to use swords. That.. or i want bare handed and wear a bracelet as 2 set pieces to make up for the swords.

    I had a draft of a skill line for a spellblade themed weapon skill line, but the thread got closed for being a dublicate, so now I don't have access to it anymore.

    tl;dr

    The skill line would have
    -visually similar light/heavy attacks as Overload. Blocking would be a ward spell
    -a skill conjuring a 1h weapon that can be reactivated to attack with the weapon for magic damage at melee range (spammable)
    -ranged explosive projectile aoe with above average magicka cost (similar to ring of elements but cast on target), perhaps with cast range minimum for balance
    -either multitarget soft cc or single target hard cc
    -some form of execute (I was thinking of maybe a delayed execute or one that loses effectiveness at larger range)
    -a "miniGrothdar" cloak with more damage and slightly smaller radius
    -a cool ultimate that I hadn't had an idea for yet
    This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

    So we may not get a new skills line but at least throwing magical effects without visually wielding a big stick is on the horizon.
