I feel like I am missing something (sorcerer).

Calgary_Hockey
I want to get better everyday but I feel like I am not making any progress. I saw so many people dealt an enormous damages to the enemies. I wonder how it is possible to kill some 40s to 45s enemies in a few seconds.

I am level 45 sorcerer and I am wearing all spider-something from head to robe to shoes. My weapon's damage is around 700 and spell damage is around 850.

I use Overload very often but I would have to recharge in every battle. I also use 20% sorcerery spell damage from Mage's Guild but I don't see any improvement.

Any advice would be great.

Are you using set gear? Wearing hodgepodge gear acquired from quests is, IMO, perfectly fine for leveling, but you're definitely at a disadvantage compared to people wearing gear that gives them set bonuses like Julianos.

Since you say you're level 45, I assume this is your first character. A lot of older players have a bunch of CP, which is what you start earning after level 50. You can augment your abilities with CP significantly - with enough, you can flatly increase your spell damage by 25%, for example.

Then it's about your rotation. The attacks you're using and how you're using them. For a very basic sorc example, if you have Crystal Fragments, you're going to want to have some kind of spammable class skill to proc it and use the frags ASAP. Then you use abilities in tandem with each other. Sorc is the class I'm least familiar with, but if you look for guides they're out there. (:

Don't worry too much about huge numbers right now. Focus on knowing your playstyle.

Your reaching the point where Crafted and Dropped sets start to matter. Your spell damage is a bit low, but I am comparing that to a character of around the same level that has lots of champ points, so that is not a fair comparison.

As one person mentioned above, skill rotations are the key to this game, then weaving in light and heavy attacks between skill attacks will preserve your resources.

If your running a magic sorcerer, your best off with a Destro Staff. I even carried two of these, one bar was for AoE attacks for multiple mobs, one bar was single target DPS for Bosses or single larger mobs.

Also, make sure your class skills are leveled, and have some of those skills on your bar as they boost your damage. Also, make sure you have Magic Glyphs on all your armors. Jewelery can help too, most of the good stuff is above your level, but Syrbane, Warlock, Soulshine are things to look out for as you venture into Champ Ranks. In the meantime, just find Arcane Jewlery that has a built in boost to magic. Put glyphs on those that either boost your spell damage, or reduce your spell costs (if you find your self running out of magic often)

Some skills when you use them make the next attack or skill do more damage or more healing or whatever, learn the synergies so you know what order to have things happen.

Inner Light is your best support skill and should be on the bar at all times. It will boost your spell critical and give a boost to magic.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

You don't mention what platform your on, but if you play PC on the NA server, I can show you a few things in the game. I won't have time for that until Saturday AM. Let me know.

Make sure you don't have too much into something you don't need - go for increases in magic and spell damage but less for regen and critical. Light Armor passives make a world of difference. 5 of one set and 3-4 of another set divines/infused traits, all magic enchants and all attributes into magic if you haven't already.

Test things on mammoths or large HP npcs with combat text on to help compare.

What kind of armors should I wear? I wear all light clothes except belt and I haven't seen any spell critic or damage gylphs in the game.
  • Calgary_Hockey
I use wrath to finish off the enemies when they are under 20% and I use destruction staff but only have 700 damages within the staff. I also use my flying follower to support.

    Let's face it I suck. :)

Dude, you are level 45. If it is your first toon, just enjoy the ride. You might see other people around your same level exploding things, but they are probably on their 2nd, 3rd, or 10th toon and are at the CP cap. I would not give a second thought to your stats until you hit the gear cap, CP160. Then we can talk builds.

Once you get to Level 50, its probably worth your effort to get some to craft you a basic Leveling Set in Training. Something like 5 Julianos, 3-4 Magnus, and enchant whatever jewelry you find with Spell regen or Spell damage. If you are on PC/NA, hit me up and Ill do it for you. Save your mats and resources for when you can actually craft CP160 gear, then look to invest in a good set. This is where you will start seeing stats that dont make you want to cry into your pillow. Haha. It's all good brother, you are doing just fine.

Take the great advice given to you by others in this thread :)

All I will add is that if you have gear crafted for you, I highly recommend waiting until you reach max rank (CP160). Then use:

    • 5x Seducer (Head, Body, Shoulders, Belt, Hands)
    • 3x Magnus (Legs, Shoes, Restoration Staff, Destruction Staff)
    • 3x Willpower (Ring 1, Ring 2, Necklace)

    Notes:
    • Use The Atronach mundus stone
    • Choose the Divines trait for every armor piece
    • Enchant all 7 of these armor pieces with Max Magicka enchantments.
    • You can craft the Seducer and Magnus Set.
    • Willpower can be purchased from guild traders. Make sure to buy those Willpower rings and a Willpower necklace in the Healthy or Arcane trait. Should be cheap!
    • Upgrade everything to Purple quality

Before reaching max rank, do all of this but don't worry about the Willpower jewelry.

I don't mean to sound dismissive, but it sounds like what you're missing is the experience of working with actual endgame builds. Which... I mean, that will come.

If you were a CR160 with weapon damage of 700, then, yeah, you'd have a reason to be down on yourself. But as it stands, you're still gearing up your class.

Spell damage, spell cost reduction, and regen glyphs only go on jewelry. There is a weapon glyph to increase damage by a relative number for 5 seconds. Player enchanters can make these for you.

A shock glyph does more damage than a drain magic/health and some shock passives apply as well.

This makes more sense now because this is my first character. I haven't created a second one yet. This may shock you I have created this character last year and I only play an hour or two every week. I feel like I live under a rock for too long. I will give it a shot and try some of advices that you guys gave me.

    This especially!
My first character, it took my forever to get the hang of things. She died a lot in the beginning, too.
My second character breezed her way to max level wearing level 10 gear.

You are asking questions and learning while playing your first character. You haven't mentioned having a problem staying alive or proceeding with quests, so you are where you need to be.

    The rest will come. :)

For a Sorcerer, I would go 5 Light, 2 Heavy (if you don't have your medium armor leveled up yet, then go 5 Light 1 Medium 1 Heavy, with a Heavy Chest being preferred. Basically, you want all your armor weights fully leveled at some point.

As for Damage Glyphs, you have to make those or find them as loot drops. Most Glyphs you buy from Enchanters are either Attribute or basic Weapon Damage.

An easily crafted set, or at least cheap to get crafted, is Seducer, go 5 Pieces in that, then I would go 2 pieces in Torugs (well, do 3 of them but you will be swapping one out once you find an Adroit Necklace and article of clothing (I like the style of the Helm for this, but a Sash is good too) Adroit has a 2 piece spell damage boost and is cheap in the guild stores. For rings, Warlocks are nice, but can be expensive, Syrbane which is CP50 is also good too, but this is stuff you look for now, not use until your leveled.

Same. First character: "Oh god I have no idea what I'm doing."

Second character: "Eh whatever I'll use this level 10 set until level 40."

Third character onward: "I blink and everything dies."

When you hit 50, you'll be able to access all the content (although I wouldn't jump in guns blazing to somewhere like Veteran City of Ash or Craglorn because, well, you'll kinda get rekt). From there, you can start to figure out your build and what you want to do. although you don't really need to be committed to it.

If you're focusing on solo play - which is fine in most cases, yes even though this is an MMO you can do a very large chunk of content solo - you can really do whatever you want. In group play, it's really preferred that you at least do stuff that makes sense (if you want to DPS, using a destro staff instead of a resto staff, for example), but plenty of combinations are possible that will work well enough. It's only really in late veteran (champion??) content that you'll, to put it bluntly, need to know what you're doing. Unfortunately there will be some people who will act like it's a cardinal sin that you don't know your class inside and out; these people have evidently forgotten that they were new once, too, and I recommend you ignore them.

When you get to the point where you start worrying about builds, your best bet is to Google "eso {class} build" followed by the main patch number and/or the name of the most recent major update. So, in this case, it'd be "eso sorcerer build 2.4" or "eso sorcerer build dark brotherhood/db". That way you're not getting a build that fell out of usefulness months ago. Otherwise just do what you like as long as it isn't just silly.

I just discovered a great outfit called "Elegant". They will provide with tons of magicka and 20% damage bonus but I would need all five items to make it work. I have four items but I need one.

Does any of you have sask, robe and or breech? I am level 46 at the moment and couldn't wear a level 50 elegant sask, robe and or breech. I kind of hope anyone have those at my level.

Thoughts I'd give it a shot.

It's a long road and there's a lot to learn the first time through. Crafted sets make a world of difference before level 50 and after, so you need to start researching online.
I started here, for armor sets...do all your crafting research so you can make yourself gear that will help you or if possible join a guild that's helpful.

Being that you are Level 45, let me introduce you to the Vile Lab in Cold Harbor. The area outside is stuffed with quickly respawing squishy zombies. Run the pattern (there are 3 pulls you do and you mow down the mobs with a Surge then Impulse/Pulsar and protect yourself with Boundless Storm for additional DPS) Anyway, if you watch others up there you can see the way it's done. Note, stay away from the two swarming zombie mobs, they give little exp, no loot really and take forever to finish off.

You will find Elegant in that area, and lots of other stuff to decon/sell. Also, because of the sheer number of mobs, you will want to put skills on your bar on the other two slots you want to level. You will soon find what you are looking for.

You will probably gain 3 or 4 character levels too while you are there, so be ready for that.

Elegant is a great set on Sorcerer because the 5 piece bonus applies to your overload light attacks. In other words, it will make your overload REALLY powerful. An Elegant sword in sharpened, is one of the most desirable items in the game at the moment, assuming its max level. But again, at level 46, I just wouldn't mess with searching for gear. You will out level it too fast. If you are 46, you could be at level 50 in an hour or two if you put your mind to it. Some people hate grinding, but it honestly might make sense in your case. Pop yourself to 50, get a solid training set of armor made, and start earning those champion points. At end game, you want Divines, but as long as you are under the cap, everything should be enchanted in training. Get those CP. Once you hit 160, then make a divines set (and maybe a second set in training). A full training set nearly doubles your XP gain. Also, wear 5 light, 1 medium, 1 heavy until everything is at 50. Then I would go 5 light, 2 heavy until you get your undaunted passives maxed, then I would go back to 5/1/1.
