We play ESO (and in some people's cases cling to or return to ESO) for what it is, was, and can be, and not for how successful it may or may not be. Honestly, that alone makes it a success in its own way. Of course ESO has its ups and downs but what game doesn't? ESO may be just a Massively Multiplayer Online Elder Scrolls Game or MMOESG for short as opposed to an MMORPG but personally (and I've looked) I cannot find any other MMO I'd rather play.
Whether ESO has 7 million or 7 hundred I care not. I've played games until they were flat deserted and still kept playing because I enjoyed it until that game's last breath or I realized its private servers gave me viruses lol
That is why I am pretty interested in how Assassin's Creed will do as a movie - I mean a game is interactive, you do stuff in it and it is your story basically - but in a movie, you are passive and the story must be a lot more interesting than playing the game yourself - and this is very hard to do. I think that is why it is so hard to make this successful.

Sure, Assassin's Creed has a good chance of succeeding IF the movie is actually good. But it's not medieval fantasy. IT's easier to make a historical adventure movie based on AC than to recreate a deep unique fantasy world such as ES. And add a good story on top of that.
There is a TV show that you would almost swear was produced by Bethesda, The Shannara Chronicles.

An MMO's popularity determines some of the enjoyment of the game I'd say. Game's struggling will seek desperate measures in order to cash out. We've seen it with other MMOs already and it's common sense that a popular MMO will make decent money which avoids that issue. ESO has a nice amount of players but not nearly enough to compete in the arena they are throwing themselves into.

I'm perfectly happy with the amount of players we have. Not too many, not too few. We don't see very many because of the 3 factions but One Tamriel will change that.

I doubt that we will see more people with it - near the limit they open a new phase and you do just see people who are in the same phase - all others in the same place but in a different phase are not visible. You can talk to them in chat, but to meet them in character you have to change the phase - like it happens when you group up or teleport to a friend - you are put in his phase, if you are not already in it.

First 10 minutes will be great!
10-30 minutes will be awesome.
30-50 will be a copy of 10-30
50-70 will be a copy of 10-30
There will be a break of 10 minutes because the movie stopped. The person left of you will get a full refund and a first class seat. The person right of you will be told that there is no problem at all. You will be told that it's your fault. You should go home, come back, buy a new ticket for the show and be gratefull.
70-75 will you miss because of some rowdies
75-85 will be bollywood physics with 20 smurfs dancing in the background
85-95 will be stop-motion
Then the movie will suddenly end with a frozen screen for 5 minutes
In the credit screen you will see advertisments to buy additional scenes you missed before
When leaving the hall you will be charged extra and the rowdies get free tickets for the next show
On the outside the director will cry and raise the ticket prices while wiping his tears with 100$ notes
For some reasons you will like it

Sure there are gonna be instance caps and stuff but right now you don't often see an area so crowded that those phases are required. Elden Root in AD is all I can really speak for in the upper level where the Crafting Stations and Banks are. After One Tamriel hits this will change and that phasing will happen in more places than just a few.

There are many phases in crowded areas - just remember how it looks like there, then relog, and when you are back, it will most likely look different, because you ended up in another phase. If it is a new one, you might even see, that the area is still pretty empty, whereas it was crowded when you logged out - this is phasing in action.

It would depend a lot on the actors as well - I mean, take the Underworld series for example, Vampires against Lycans. Would this series have been successful without Kate Beckinsale?- Doubtfully.
I would take a look at a TES movie, if this woman would play a leading role in it or if they would get Russell Crowe in a leading role - thinking of gladiator, raawwr - something pleasing the eyes - but in this case I would care for the actors, not the movie.
Hm, or Chris Pine - that is a handsome guy as well - but he is in the Star Trek movie series now - next one coming up this month.
Speaking of Game of Thrones - is there a mid-season break now - the last episode I saw was "The Winds of Winter" end of last month?

LoL Lysette. The season is complete.
If half of the crew is dead - you've seen it all.
If most characters are still alive - you've missed the season's finale !
;-)
There is a TV show that you would almost swear was produced by Bethesda, The Shannara Chronicles. Definitely a TES/Fallout twist to the show, that's for sureAs far as a movie goes, it could work if the screenplay was done well. Unfortunately, many times they are not.

As much as I'd love to see an Elder Scrolls movie, I think it better to not have that.
Elder Scrolls is a little too complex, I think, for a general audience; which means in order to make back it's budget, a movie would have to be dumbed-down pretty hard. Which I don't feel would do the setting any justice.
