TES movie?

I have never seen a more beautiful cinematic trailer of three fates.
I thought: "Incredible! looks like a movie!" 26 minutes of eso trailers are more exciting than many movies released in recent times. I think it would be an amazing movie.
What do you think?
Think about it.

Hmm.. Yes, the trailers been really good. But a Movie with TESOs current state?

First 10 minutes will be great!
    10-30 minutes will be awesome.
    30-50 will be a copy of 10-30
    50-70 will be a copy of 10-30
There will be a break of 10 minutes because the movie stopped. The person left of you will get a full refund and a first class seat. The person right of you will be told that there is no problem at all. You will be told that it's your fault. You should go home, come back, buy a new ticket for the show and be gratefull.
70-75 will you miss because of some rowdies
75-85 will be bollywood physics with 20 smurfs dancing in the background
    85-95 will be stop-motion
Then the movie will suddenly end with a frozen screen for 5 minutes
In the credit screen you will see advertisments to buy additional scenes you missed before
When leaving the hall you will be charged extra and the rowdies get free tickets for the next show
On the outside the director will cry and raise the ticket prices while wiping his tears with 100$ notes

Oh, and to post a more serious answer, the trailers were good in creating a hype. They gave the players what they expected. Cool moves, great graphics, references to lore... but I don't think that will work in a movie. There won't be enough to see it, and without paying customers, nobody will fund it. Fans would definetly like it. Final Fantasy movies worked that way, but Fanbase in Japan was a lot bigger than ESO's. Especialy with ZO$ milking the franchise like they do.

    Good point.
However it is not an exhortation to make the film, it's a kind of poll. Obviously TES and ZOS not have the funds for a film, he did WoW this year .. about whether the sequences are not very well, the world tes is really large and if you think about it in all games the various dialogues, quests, campaign etc .. have already made more than a movie, and also exciting, because they know very well characterize the characters and make them well-rounded. so I'm confident. and then, 26 minutes of trailers without a word and make it so beautiful is a few.
    However they are viewpoints

    Agreed.

It might be all right if they picked a particular event from lore (Battle of Red Mountain, Akaviri Invasion, Alessia's Rebellion) and used a movie to flesh out the events and characters involved. But anything following the games would be, at best, a Mary-Sue-fest that loses both the tone and most of the events from the games. I have very little confidence that even good writing and direction could get that right.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

There is a TV show that you would almost swear was produced by Bethesda, The Shannara Chronicles. Definitely a TES/Fallout twist to the show, that's for sure :) As far as a movie goes, it could work if the screenplay was done well. Unfortunately, many times they are not.

Blizzard, a company with a lot more money than ZOS, took about 10 years to finally have a movie made about their video game.

Zenimax simply does not have the money to do this, hell, they don't have the money needed to hire better coders to fix their game.

That is true players only know about TES events by actually looking and reading around for the lore apposed to the games where you are the events that happen.

Maybe a TES movie about Talso of Atmoras rise to divinity or the Alessia rebellion against the heartland elves or even the Tribunals rise to power all good ideas.

But multi million dollars worth of a movie ? Maybe not best we can hope to see is a very good CGI movie which I wouldn't mind cause CGI video game movies tend to do alot better than the live action stuff look at the Resident Evil CGI movies compared to the live action ones.

You do know if they made a movie about TESO the plot would be the Alliance War and the Vestige's quest to reclaim his soul right? It'd be like Lord of the Rings trilogy where the Companions are like the Fellowship of the Ring and then Ayrenn, Jorunn, and Emeric would be like Saruman, Theoden, and Denethor, to a degree.

    Hmmm...

If we ever get to see an Elder Scrolls movie, I'm fairly sure it will focus on some unexplored point in time or a smaller/new narrative. I don't think we'd ever get a movie about any of the main games' plots nor TESO - not only because these would fit a TV series format far better than movies (because of their scale if they want to be faithful to source material) but also because they know that meddling with stories that are already too well "burned" in the collective imaginarium of fans is a dangerous business.

So, yeah, I do believe it would be a new, original story.

And, to be honest, I don't see it as far stretched as some might think. First of all, Zenimax is a huge group - THE Zenimax, the group that owns both Bethesda and ZOS, and they also work with media and such - which would make it not so much of a long jump. They certainly have the means and the money if they wanted to.

AND also because I think a TES movie/tv series is far more doable than the Warcraft movie was. Although still arguably High Fantasy, the TES universe is far more realistic (in terms of aesthetics) than the Warcraft universe, with most creatures pretty much humanoid and magic as a far deeper and organic thing rather than big flashes and glitter. All in all, what I mean is that bringing the TES universe to movie and tv screens would be a lot more about good writing and producing rather than millions of dollars in CGI and computer effects. Hell, you can even come up with a good TES story with almost no CGI if you do it right.

So, to finish it off, I think that the only barrier between an idea and reality is the potential profit. Unfortunately, if not even WoW could impress masses other than their already estabilished fans (let's be honest, the movie is bad. It was only enjoyable for people that played the games and even so just because of nostalgia (As someone that works/studied media/communication/arts/filmmaking and stuff like that AND played Warcraft I felt really divided between an awful and awesome movie at the same time) I doubt TES would have a fanbase big enough to provide a substantial profit and all that.

On the other hand, we've been witnessing a growing "fantasy/medieval trend" on the last few years since the LOTR movies generation grew up and started to look for mature content of the same type. Game of Thrones (TV Series) boosted it up and now we're seeing a lot of new medieval and/or fantasy series coming up, new movies, etc... not only the technology and resources currently available make it FAR more doable than it was 10 years ago, it IS a current trend. That said, there's a lot of potential for a series aimed at non-fans that would also cather to fans and, perhaps, estabilish a new ground for TES in the cultural imaginarium of our society. My best best would be an alternatively distributed TV series with a new/original story in the TES universe, something probably best fitted through Netflix or Starz. This would open way for new seasons with better resources, so anticipation could be built for greater things (like Oblivion) from start but left for future seasons, and would also pave the way for future developments like movies, more franchising with toys and such, not to mention the likely increase in sells of TESO itself and other games from the series. Combined with a card game for celphones to aim at more casual gamers that really enjoy the series, this could be a blast for Zenimax.

Timing is of the essence, though. And like one of my favorite lines from the Prophet used to say:
With the passing of time, any indecision becomes decision.

    EDIT:
Writing this got me so inspired, I'm totally going to start working on a screenplay - even if just for fun - (I'll wait your e-mail Zeni, thanks <3 )

Who has ever succeeded at adapting a medieval/fantastic universe into a movie or a TV serie ?

    Let's see...

    - Lord of the rings
    - Harry Potter
    - The Chronicles of Narnia
    - Game of Thrones
    - Excalibur (and most good movies based on the arthurian legend)

All come from extremely famous and rich series of books, with world-wide reputation.

What video-game ever succeeded on the big screen or on TV ?

I think... none. Even The Witcher failed (and it was backed up by high-quality literature too). WoW failed.

TES might be a golden franchise within the gaming sub-world, but it is unknown anywhere else. Noone knows about Elder Scrolls outside the gaming industry. There's no literature behind the Elder Scrolls lore.
Besides, even if the lore is very rich, it's spread over thousands of lorebooks with different points of view and tidbits of mysterious infos and clues. It is a great storytelling technique for a videogame, but I'm not sure it would make enough material for a good story for a movie or a serie.

I hope they'll refrain from trying it, it's doomed to fail imho.

We play ESO (and in some people's cases cling to or return to ESO) for what it is, was, and can be, and not for how successful it may or may not be. Honestly, that alone makes it a success in its own way. Of course ESO has its ups and downs but what game doesn't? ESO may be just a Massively Multiplayer Online Elder Scrolls Game or MMOESG for short as opposed to an MMORPG but personally (and I've looked) I cannot find any other MMO I'd rather play.

Whether ESO has 7 million or 7 hundred I care not. I've played games until they were flat deserted and still kept playing because I enjoyed it until that game's last breath or I realized its private servers gave me viruses lol

That is why I am pretty interested in how Assassin's Creed will do as a movie - I mean a game is interactive, you do stuff in it and it is your story basically - but in a movie, you are passive and the story must be a lot more interesting than playing the game yourself - and this is very hard to do. I think that is why it is so hard to make this successful.
