For straight up damage, Infused or Divines (depending on Mundus) is best. Since several Sorcerer skills scale exclusively with Max Magicka, Infused may earn more mileage (depending on Mundus).

    For PVP or PVE?

I do not see that much value in Divines in PVP in my own experience. You need to be highly resistant to Crit in PVP. You need to be able to decrease your opponents Spell and physical resistance in PVP. I can really vote for just one as you need to use the one that boost you in the area you are lacking. You will more than likely use a combination of them.

    PVE
    Divines for the most part
Tanks would choose defending on some pieces.

I choose impen then just because in PVP stacking Defense makes more sense to me. The glass cannon build or the half and half defense/DPS just normally gets me killed very quickly. Full on Defense and slowing annoying my opponents to death is much more fun.

    For PvP definitely Impen.
For PvE Divines, though if you just want to do dungeons only casually every now and then you can do that pretty well with impen anyway.

I say divines if you only want 1 set of gear. However, you should get a pvp set with infused and a divines pve set. Its what I am doing for my end game.

DPS Mag Sorc historically was best infused on big items and divines' on smaller. No impen as wards don't crit so no need. Since DB depending on your build you may now need some impen

I've gotten a lot of hate for my all infused DPS magplar build but I don't regret it at all. 40k magicka is easily achievable on any race. 50k is probably achievable on high elf but I'm not certain. More than enough to burn everything and spam breath of life 10 or 15 times.

Infused on big pieces was great back when there were softcaps or people only had 100 CP. The 20% extra magicka could work out to a significant amount of your total magicka. But an extra 600-ish magicka combined from 3 pieces Infused when CP501 people are running around with 45,000 magicka is barely noticeable. The 22.5% increase in Mundus effect now gives you more DPS, even if only running Thief mundus. If wearing Twice-Born Star and running both Thief and Shadow mundus, Divines becomes even more powerful.

Why would anyone do all infused. On small pieces that's roughly an extra 250 max magic on all 4 pieces combined. Seems pretty lackluster to me.

Because I spent a half million gold in my set just to see if it would work. It has. I don't regret it. Divines is probably better but infused is still pretty great.

I voted "other", because it's completely circumstantial. As others have said, in a PVP environment it's best to stack resistances to critical damage. Where as in a PVE setting, it's best to choose a trait that best increases your damage; or healing. Or tanking, if you're aiming to fulfil that role.

Is there a limit to the number of pieces you can put Divines on & still have it stack effectively? I seem to recall someone in an earlier post saying that stacking Divines is not very effective after a few pieces but now I cannot find the post.

Same question concerning Impenetrable... is there an efficiency in using a certain number of pieces or best to use it on all pieces for maximum crit resistance?

If your shields are up, you can't get crit damage... If your shields are down your dead anyways.

    Only if you're a potato.

OP, run at least 4 impen on your small pieces. I prefer all impen then damage and sustain oriented item sets, but I am also accustomed to playing with slightly smaller shields, using my health bar to soak some damage too (isn't that what it's there for?).

Infused big pieces is solid on a sorc, but as long as you use 4 impen you'll be decemtly tanky.

Your CP distribution is just as important as your traits, though. Use at least 65 CP in bastion. More is excessive, less is reckless. Then split the rest into Hardy and Elemental Defender for mitigation.

You'll be able to tank with a sturdy health bar AND substantial shields, healing up underneath them via Power Surge, ward, and pots. This will give you strong windows where you can go offensive between having to reapply shields.

Also consider running Hardened on your front bar and the other 2 shields on the back. Good luck.

For MagSorc these days I put impen on small pieces and infused on big. Of course it all depends on your build but 4 small pieces of impen can yield some decent returns when you're in a tough fight.

Im fan of using big armor parts for what they can be used for. For example reinforced in a heavy chest or infused in pants.
The other traits like divines and sturdy etc goes in small parts since they dont give much.

ofc a crit build with a khajiit or something, or a twiceborn star build would benefit more from divines. But saying divines is the only way to go is not correct.

Divines with Thief and/or Shadow Mundus is the best for PVE. In PVP crit is less useful, and Divines is lacking unless you're using a regen or max stat Mundus.

With that said in PVP I personally find Infused on Head, Chest, and Legs to be the better route for extra stats. I also think 7/7 Impen is overkill. I try to mix in either Infused, Divines, Strudy, or Well-fitted depending on what I'm aiming for with the build.

In most cases to get the best for both PVE and PVP you'll want different gear set ups for both modes.
