I dont believe a word from zeni anymore. There are so many bugs and conflicts were supposed to be fixed and are not. I believe this issue is one of them.

Your experience is opposite of mine. Additionally, I've seen periods of meager return and periods where it was raining gold matts. You may be experiencing a dry spell.

Some of my characters get showered in surveys and others can go dry for days before seeing a survey. But RNG is RNG afterall...

Is not the gold mats that are the problem... the problem is with the Surveys.

Surveys is what keeps you doing writs, and without them they quickly turn into a non-worthy proposition, even if you sometime get gold mats.

Specifically the problem is with Craglorn writs... let's take a closer look.

Standard Craglorn writ requires you to make an investment of about ~70-90 mats (average)per craft. (Worst is woodworker= 3 staves of each 3 types at 11 pieces per staff)

That's an outrageous sum of mats, that I think it was OK when those mats were the top level and everyone was gathering them, but now, when they are scarce to the point where their prices went up, to almost triple what they used to be when they were in vogue... it's ridiculous.

And anyone that does Craglorn writs and Wrothgar writs knows that the Survey drops rate is different... I get almost about ~3 surveys per day for Wrothgar writs (sometime more) to the point that come the weekend I have several unopened bags in my inventory (because I can't extract duplicates.)

But Craglorn, comparing week to week, I normally get 3 of them for all the week, and sometimes not even one. That's not RNG, that clearly a different drop rate.

I realise that the difference is the Nirncruxes, and that I assume ZOS is trying to keep them rare... and that's OK by me!

But that's not the correct way to do it... the way to do it is to adjust the drop rate of Nirn stone ON the specific crafting nodes related to surveys (and leave all the normal nodes alone,) and at the same time up the drop rate of the surveys a bit...

In the end, you'd have the same acquisition rate of nirn stones (rarer on the nodes, but higher chance of surveys means more gathering) but also keeps people doing the writs, because they can recover the mats they invested in them.

That's my 2c on the matter.

EDIT: I fixed the Woodworker example, I typed by memory and it was wrong... it was 11 per piece, instead of 12, which still gives: 3*3*11=99 pieces per craft!

Doing 6 writs on all 8 characters, I notice a nerf on writs every month or so. Occasionally there is even a buff.

But then I realize it's probably just times of hitting the extremities of RNG and eventually it seems to go back to "normal"
