"Partial" Console Text Chat - Screenshots

Figured I'd make a thread to show what they mean by "partial" console text chat in the PC PTS. PC can't get the full effect but here is what is on the PTS currently.

Keep in mind Zos has stated this is only partially here so this may not be everything. It could also be working incorrectly for all we know.

As a side note to Zos. When using gamepad mode on PC your loot shows up on the left side under our chat window! PLEASE fix this.

EDIT: Just clarifying that this is only PARTIAL as stated in the PTS notes. As well it very well could have a shortcut key on a gamepad keyboard/keyboard but I can't know for sure - since when I press my button to get into chat - it defaults to PC chat. You might not have to use the menu to get it - I don't know - but I do know PC chat interferes with totally checking it out.

How well does it work?, are the text commands for all the chats ie. guild 1-5, say, shout, yell, and can it be accessed without going through the menu?

I'd never thought about how it would be accessed, myself - I really don't think I like the idea of having to go into menu to open it. I'd love it if those who connect a (cheap and crappy!) keyboard to their console can pull up text chat using the '/' key, as on PC.

Definitely will need to keep the chats to inside keeps only in PvP if the chat box takes up the whole screen. As others have asked are the PC shortcuts working?

Oh god thanks for sharing this, it looks awful. Why make us sit our menu to type? What's so hard about giving us the same window on the bottom left like pc? Hopefully there's more because this is the only feature that I was looking forward to and if this is it......sad

how can i use this during a fort capture in Cirodyyl? i say to enemies "wait i have to open menu (and cover 3/4 of my screen)and write something to my group?

Believe me, in high intensity situations you aren't using text chat.

Its why pc folks go to third parties for voice chat. Lol

I bet on console you will have options to SEE it in the corner but to type you will need to go to menu

On console (and I guess pc too) there is another mmo called Dc universe online and even in some of the harder content it is possible to type in a message because in that game all you have to do is press the space bar and type what you needed to. Going through a menu and typing is better than nothing but I still feel that we should have at least something like pc has. I might be rambling but there's a point there somewhere

@BackFreckle See, that's why I'm not sure about the total usefulness of this. If you hook a keyboard of some kind up to your console, it MAY work that way. Since I'm on PC though my enter key opened up my actual PC chat. I'm not sure how it would react on console though. The PC chat interferes with it a bit.

I have a $5 Logitech keyboard that I've used for DCUO, FF14 and now ESO and it works fine as typing is concerned. As for people who type with a controller in Dc all you had to do was touch the big touchpad button to open up the chat window so there were built in shortcuts for the chat window.

Idk it's better than nothing and I thank you for being the only one who has showed this (I was checking your youtube in case you had posted anything about this lol ) but I guess I'll have to wait to see what the whole thing looks like before I jump to far into the deepend

Yeah all USB keyboards should work with ps4 (probably Xbox too) but like I said, pc chat interferes with the functionality on PC pts so it's hard to tell if you will be able to do that. I didn't make a video since its really as simple as those screenshots, plus ZOS mentioned its partial (probably due to pc chat interfering)

I use an wireless apple keyboard currently and it works flawless within the context of emails and such on live PS4

Really hope i can start using chat by hitting enter on a keyboard or even assign hotkey to dpad. Not a fan of having to open a menu and then start typing, shouldve kept it as close to PC imo. Also Iwant to be able to read chat while I play and not stop to open a menu. Hope to hear more about the final version of console text chat soon.

I want an adjustable size box in my bottom left or right corner that fades with time and I'd like to be able to open it using my keyboard or smartglass app. Needs several channels like guild, lfg, trade, zone and whisper. Need to be able to link items to it as well.

Let's hope this is a prototype.

@EZgoin76 it would make sense to just push a button and have it open up. That could actually be how it works, but pc text chat is getting in the way of actually being able to check it out fully

PC currently has zone, group, guild and whisper so we should get those channels with a text box on console. People just use LFG in chat box in zone chat and guild channels on PC I would expect we will have the same thing happening on console.

You can link items from your inventory in text chat on PC not sure if we will get it for console but should be possible.

If I have to go into the menu to type and see the text chat, don't bother putting it out. It would be useless and more of a hassle to use then it should be. Dcuo and FF14 had it perfect. Please try to do it that way.

I was excited for text chat until I saw this crap.

Why can't you implement a chat box on the bottom left side of the screen like any normal mmo? What logic is it to have to go through pages of menus to get to a chat box?? How tf would anyone know if anyones typing or if you got a whisper, if you're not a mic user and rely on text chat to communicate? Nobody in a raid or group is gonna waste time checking out the MENU ACCESSED text chat. That's such a waste of time! I feel like I'm playing a cheap budgeted game right now. Blows my mind whoever makes these decisions.

Why does zos always do things backwards? Please for the love of god get the chat box right of all things!

I don't care who but someone needs to make sure this is done right. I haven't seen one happy player about this chat box. Listen to the community about this, this is a poorly thought out feature. There is a big space on console bottom left. Use it!
