What are your character(s) Gender?

All female because well... I got sick of having to be mario and link all my life growing up. There wasn't many female lead character games around during that time (that I knew of).

I like to stick with my own gender in games nowadays, if I cannot be female I simply don't purchase the game. This is why I passed on Assassins Creed Unity. Couldn't be female playing multiplayer, I was looking forward playing that mode too unfortunately.

I can understand this - I have as well a hard time to indentify with a male lead character - but some games do not offer a choice. Like the Witcher. And I haven't played it yet, not sure, if gender played a role in it, maybe not, I don't know, I am reluctant. Maybe yes, hard to say.

ha I always put some of myself in 1 of my characters in games like this...nice to know I'm not alone with making "high fantasy me" :)

Now when I think about it, one of mine is as well pretty similar to me. And just one.

Yea I can't make more then 1 "me", even if it's only loosely based on me. I could probably make 7 different characters that would all represent parts of me but I'm already questing as myself in the real world. :p

Yeah that's close to what I do. I have 7 females who are all identical as I wanted them to look like me (to fully immerse myself). They all have their own back story but each have my morals and general spirit. I always have the surname "Dragonheart", which is more of a title tbh

Now this is extreme - 7 versions of you in different roles.

Mine do not have my morals, they develop their own with the flow of their virtual lives.

It is a little, isn't it? I should clarify I only use 2. The rest are mules.

I tend to read a lot of comics and do a lot of fantasy/sci-fi writing, so I always enjoy putting myself in another realm. Other than my morals and how they look, they are quite different. They have their own story and path. It often spurs me to write and draw!

Edit: Apart from a small doodle of torchbug I haven't done much art recently. My last one was The Joker when I was in hospital and dopey on morphine, haha. Think I may pick it up again tomorrow! Maybe a High Elf...

I try to avoid putting myself in the story, but all of my characters have "a bit of me", be it a certain hobby or personality trait, or a physical feature. None of them have too much of me, though, and I don't consider any of them "myself". I actually asked to change my username because of that. At first, my @name was the same as the name of my main character, but that started bothering me after a while because people on guild chat would call me by my main character's name even if I was playing another character. And she isn't me, and I am not her, so I asked support and they changed my @name.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I try to see mine more as my children - they start out with a moral set, which is a lot like mine, but they are independent and develop their own over time, dependent on what they experience. I made the experience, that a lot of my characters in other games did not turn out, like I expected - after a while they really develop their own life - a lot is related to the friends they make on their path - that is why I find it weird, that in ESO they cannot have friends independently from each other.

Edit: and now when I think about it, I do as well defend them like a mother, if someone tries to hurt their feelings.

Mine are 50/50, 4 males and 4 females. I use my 4 main characters every day - a female tank, a female healer, a male tank and a male DPS - and they are all max level. The others are 3 mules and a max leveled crafter.

I think I went male, female, male, female, etc., just do be doing something different, otherwise if I did all males they would probably all look and be the same.

I have a main male imperial who looks exactly like me (the me I see in my head, not the me I see in my mirror). He has my morals.

I have a female khajiit who I play most days. She has my cats morals.

I've then got 2 males & 2 females I'm mostly levelling up horses for at this stage. I'll probably want to play them someday, and when I do, I don't want to go back to a slow horse.

    8chars on NA
    11 chars on EU
8 chars on 2nd acc EU
Deleted about 15 chars minimum by now.

All but 1 were male and I only made the female to see how "hot" I can make her. She got deleted at level 5 when I realised other players wanted to give me free things for having a hot female char...

You're missing out on some good games because of this odd hangup. I understand preferring to play a role that you can best relate to, which is why I prefer games with character creation, but I wouldn't pass up on good games if I could only play the opposite gender. Horizon New Dawn is a good looking upcoming RPG that stars a redhead warrior woman (love redheads alright, alright, alright) and I'm interested in getting a PS4 and picking this up someday.

    @Lysette
The Witcher 3 lives up to the hype of a story filled, rich RPG. I would love it if you could create your own Witcher instead of playing as Geralt but it seems like they may make a future game starring Ciri who's a female Witcher that you get to play as during various stages of the main quest. I recommend going into it like you're going into a book.

Thanks, I intended to buy the witcher 3 anyway, but you are right, maybe I should just see it like reading a book and immerse myself by empathy instead to try to identify with the character.

While I generally agree with you (there are plenty of games with male protags I love, like the early Assassin's Creed games, or Thief, or Infamous, or, yeah, Legend of Zelda and FFVII)... I'm sorry, but you don't really get how frustrating it is to see your gender be relegated to romantic interest or eye candy again and again and again. Don't call it an "odd hangup," because it is an entirely understandable hangup to get fed up with 90% of gaming media not representing you. The majority of gaming companies not only not cater to us... they don't even recognize us as a legitimate subset of gamers. So it's not odd at all to favor the games that do.

(Though it does seem to be getting better lately, so yay for that :) )

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"
