64-bit client is default?

Considering the sheer number of people not on a 64-bit OS, shouldn't the lowest common denominator have ruled? Shouldn't 32 bit be default?

Pretty *** move if you asked me, whoever's idea this was.

Didn't they say the launcher detected your specs, and launches 64-bit only if you have it? I'm pretty sure they did.

I know the default is the 64 bit client on 64 bit systems. Not so sure about the 32 bit systems. One would assume that the 32 bit client would be default on those, but this is ZOS we are talking about.

I had never heard the software was self-identifying.That's a GOOD idea.

Maybe not such a *** move after all.

Well, 32-bit OS are extremely old meanwhile - we cannot stick to old stuff for an eternity, it makes development harder and more time consuming. If you guys, who still have a 32-bit OS do not upgrade to a state-of-the-art OS in time, then you will have to face the consequence, that rather sooner than later your OS will no longer be supported by gaming companies. The least common denominator is not a good choice with it, and 32-bit is outdated - and just hinders progress in game design.

It doesn't have to be stated, just look at your Launcher, Click the Circle at the top right and it now shows a new checkbox.

If you click on the Launcher Options, you can see a tickable option to launch the 64bit client. Just untick it and it will launch 32bit one instead.

The 64 bit launcher only seems to launch with the Intel graphics on my laptop instead of the nvidia chip, unlike the 32 bit that automatically uses my 960m. Do I have to launch 64 bit from the game files by right clicking and running with the Nvidia card or is there a way of getting it to run straight from the launcher?

Good thing I stopped launching from the launcher over a year ago! I have direct shortcuts on my Desktop for both the NA and EU 32 bit and 64 bit clients and I launch the client I chose to launch.

    Auto-detects what version you need.

Also, surely the only people running a gaming PC on 32 bit are those still using Windows XP, and who would consciously choose to remain on XP these days? It's 15 years old?

I had to use a shortcut before this patch. It's wayyyy better than 32 for me, the only gripe I have is the view distance. Zergs appear from nowhere.

But yeah, I didn't hear anything from Zenimax. Heard it from a forum member.

Or surely those who got tired of all the problems with the 64-bit version and dealing with all their 'tinkering' to try to get it to work properly and decided to go back to the 32-bit version for stability. ;)

Just an FYI, had about three to four 'crash to black screens' since DB patch that came a week after DB launched, kept using the little 'report' window that popped up and explained what I was doing at the time. Then saw a note Jessica posted in the console crash thread stating that these type of crashes on PC are occurring on systems where players are running the 32-bit version but should be running 64-bit. So last night I went back to the 64-bit version and so far <knock on wood> haven't had any 'crash to black screens'. Also, I NEVER EVER launch the game from the launcher... nothing like having unnecessary resources running in the background... I always launch from ICON on desktop.

Well, since the last update, it kept crashing right after login in (click the button, 2 seconds freeze, crash reporter).
So after 2 crashes, I noticed it automatically picked up the 64-bits client since, well, my laptop is a 64-bits.
Promptly went back to 32-bits client... Of course I already tried to update mah CPU and GPU drivers. Same results.

Good luck guessing where the issue comes from if you're not exactly tech-savvy. Good thing I tried out the 64-bits client just to see that it was buggy before it was actually forced on me.
