In all seriousness though, there is no greater test of one's individual mechanics than a proper duel against a skilled opponent.

Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.
He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.
This proves nothing in ESO world. Look all the zergbads around watching the fight and they flee when the guy in blacks die.

Only for some setups, and that's my biggest gripe with duels.
Run a DoT build against a Malubeth user, face someone who respecs / changes gear before a duel, and get to enjoy fighting tanky magplars / saptanks and you'll realize you can't even "win" unless you literally sacrifice everything to actually have a chance to kill your opponent. Or play a vamp stamblade / ranged magblade against a mag DK (Rest In Pepperoni).
I had my share of 20 minutes duels ending in a draw, or just so vastly one-sided fights that those were completely irrelevant, so, yes, there are interesting duels, but they are definitely not the only way to measure how good a player is.

No, the game isn't balanced around duels or smallscale combat at the moment, but it'll have to be before they introduce Arenas/BGs (which are coming).
I'm not resistant to solo play. I go out solo frequently on all of my characters. It is very obvious at this point that the game is being balanced around group play, so that is where skill will come into play. How you support your team and work together to focus down targets in outnumbered fights.Cinnamon_Spider wrote: »This game is too focused on group play in PVP at this point. xvX shows awareness and skill and coordination among other things. Dueling shows mechanics and skill and reflexes and ability to read one's opponent among other things. They're both relevant.
Edit: Why is everyone so resistant to solo play and dueling these days? It's not about epeen. It's about individual self-sufficiency and skill when outnumbered or when faced by a highly skilled opponent. To say that dueling is about epeen is to say boxing is about epeen. No, boxing is a sport. People like to box or watch boxing because it's enjoyable. Same for dueling.
pvp: again one-shotted by a ganker nb from stealth, snare snare, 3 seconds snare, hit hit hit, finisher, dead
