Out of curiosity, does anyone have any video footage of any of the devs or main folks at ZOS actually playing this game? Like running a dungeon, trial, etc. completing it, and or providing advice on how to go about doing things?

I've played a lot of MMO's, and usually you'll have the company's staff members as actual crucial figures in the game. Meaning even though they are developers, they are active in the community by also the fact that they actually play the game. Some of which are apart of guilds, and periodically provide advice and tips about how to go about dealing with particularly challenging content. They'll provide some information on where to farm for certain things, and things of the sort. And honestly? I can't think of a time I've seen any of the developers we see on ESO Live or post on the forums actually play the game or do anything of the sort. I mean we had in-game GM's, but like the Dwemer, they all just up and disappeared. Lmao. Not a single trace left behind. They're like the Carmen Sandiego of ESO.

So please. If anyone has video footage or audio clips of any of the devs or forum staff doing anything of the sort listed above, please provide it. And please don't mention Kyle, or whatever dude-man's name is who is often shown in ESO Live streams. Because let's all be honest, he wouldn't last very long in VMA. In fact, I don't think they could handle post-DB VWGT. I mean people actually playing the meat and potatoes, and being masterful and skillful in their play.

Never encountered a dev in an MMO game in my life. I stumbled upon some devs in Orcs Must Die! Unchained and they sucked, hehe.

ZOS had some streams in the past with dev team playing and they did pretty well. I think they were fighting in IC and held their ground pretty well. It's quite possible that some play the game, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're incredibly active and/or skilled. Why would that even matter?

inb4 but you need skillz to actually know how the game workssss

They have done some playing on ESO Live or at conventions.

However I believe their actual characters for those who admit to playing are protected from public awareness because of the issues it could cause. I know some other MMO's actually force developer accounts locked if the wider playerbase gains knowledge of who their characters are.

I believe in the past both @ZOS_BrianWheeler and @Wrobel have confirmed they play NA PC PvP.

I came cross these images on Google of previous sightings of the mysterious GM's. There's a few more out there on the web, although documented proof of their existence is rather limited... This is a sad thing, as I can tell everyone first-hand from experience that they used to be quite common before they "up and disappeared" (Dwemer reference) out of nowhere. This was back when ZOS used to care about their product, and was rather passionate about their customer base. You can tell they were incredibly friendly, as in 1 image they appear to be using an instrument emote while a fellow player danced. In another image, they appear to be overlooking a party or mass-gathering in a town. So why they disappeared, nobody will ever know. . .

A GM in that kind of MMO is more an hotliner or a IT support guy, paid with stones on his face to solve the most possible requests that angry customers send.

And those GMs was all fired because due to the reduction of their activity after launch for a small team that never go ingame since more than 2 years.

So no, there are no GM's playing eso.

And The lasts times devs tried to play eso with their dev tags, community show them how was Cyrodiil. It was "interesting".

Some of those photographs might even be from the time before time began - sometimes known simply as beta.

Khajiit has been around since then and never once has she seen one of these mysterious spirits.

This one is sure they do visit Tamriel but khajiit would assume it is in American Tamriel and that they keep their secret identities very secret. They walk among us and we do not know them ...

Anyway why would they show themselves when they have a big room with many screens and can sit there with the delicious popcorn watching these ones from a safe distance?

Eric Wrobel, Brian Wheeler and Matt Frior have all said in the past that they have private accounts and play the game. I'm pretty sure Frior even said he had both a PC and console account in one of his updates that included images of his character.

ESO Live just before IC release has video of Wheeler, the guy who took over from Paul Sage that used to be big on lurks and some QA guys 4 manning in IC.

We had a lot of the devs and even forum managers (Jessica Folsom and Gina Bruno) in PvP on the PTS when they wanted a stress test ages ago. All the devs had ZOS_ in their names so you could spot them.

He's referring to the 1.6 PTS "Play with the Devs" event back in 2015. All the ESO Live personalities got on their ZOS_accounts on the PTS and led all 3 factions to a giant zergfest at Glademist.

It was a complete and utter disaster; the PTS crashed every 5-10 minutes for an hour while lagging insanely the whole time and the devs cancelled the event early saying that, "we have all the info we need now." That was the first and last time the devs hosted any kind of in game event.

Here's the old thread with video of the event

the only mmo i know of that has devs that play their game is AdventureQuest, and the folks at artix entertainment, they estabilish themselves as characters in their game's lore. the founder for example is of course, the character known as artix, a paladin who has a unhealthy manic obsession with killing undead. it might be a 2d mmo, but the company itself is full of good people that really listen to their players.

if only eso did that, but then, i suppose massive wrobel hunts would happen in pvp, where every single faction would team up to hunt him relentlessly

    • "ages ago" says a lot
    • Remind me when IC was out? Something like 8 months ago?*

    * I don't count these extremely short sessions where a single DEV from ESO live is showcasing features, because, that's what he does, he is showcasing specific features and changes, not actually playing for entertainment. It's not a dev's play per se.

I would sincerely love to see the devs playing on a regular basis, going thru the struggles we go thru on a daily basis, see them die, wipe, do trials with a few players, run in Cyro / IC...

Very interesting feedback, everyone. Very interesting indeed.

Hm... I actually do wonder what would happen if Wrobel would attempt VMA, or Matt. Can you all imagine that? Then right at the end, when Wrobel opens VMA's last chest? A robust ring of Winterborn. Lmao. I'd be willing to bet he'd go, "Man, I just love the excitement of RNG. You never know what you can get! All this hard work, for a terrible ring in the wrong trait. I better go stealth-nerf that Maelstrom weapon drop-rate. I just gotta keep this excitement and joy flowing." :p
