Unconventional Templar

Hello Everyone,
So I am new to ESO, and am coming from a raiding guild from EQ2. I took a break from gaming for about 2 years, but now I'm back and loving it. So, I've always played a healer so I had to go Templar. And I've been doing a lot of research on how people build their Templars, which has been very interesting and very different from other games that I've played. I am mainly soloing right now, but do plan on getting into major groups and raids when I am maxed out on my level. But I have build my Templar very differently than others are doing so and was wondering if any other Templars had any other thoughts. I do not have any direct heals at all. Instead, I have morphed all my combat actions that allow healing for damage done. So every time I attack, it will heal myself or the group. Therefore, I am doing damage and massive healing at the same time.

Has anyone else preferred a build like this?

What abilities are you referring to?

The only one I can think of that heals someone as well as you from damage done, is Funnel Health, which is a nightblade, not a templar skill...

I agree with @Brrrofski that the kind of style you are looking for is probably more of a Nightblade style. I will say that I'm hopeful they do something about Healing Ritual that would change it into an instant cast pbaoe heal over time.

Puncturing sweeps and radiant glory both do this. There are probably a handful of others. The less used Templar morphs have lots of options like this.

That said, my opinion is that if you can make it work, have at it! You're probably going to encounter plenty of haters, but if it works for you enjoy.

Personally I don't know how a Templar could operate without breath of life, but to each there own. Hope it works for you. Maybe you'll fall on the good side of genius vs insanity, maybe not. Never know unless you try. Good luck!

Daniel is correct in what I"m using. Puncturing Sweep morfs into a heal also and radient glory. Also, there is an Undaunted skill called blood alter... it's amazing, Heals for 2% of damage done.

Puncuting sweeps and Radiant glory only Heal you...

Blood alter healing for 2%, means your only healing 2% of the damage taken. It won't keep people alive.

This method won't keep anyone alive except you.

I have a healer by the way, for reference.

Templars don't have abilities that deal damage and heal the group as a result. You're either thinking about Nightblade, or you read the tooltips wrong.

I'm not thinking about Nightblade. It was just what I was doing, and I mentioned I was soloing. Idk, I stay alive and kill several levels above me without an issue. Just a fun build I think for people who want to solo. I will def respect for raiding/groups, but to stay alive this is a great build for Templars imo.

When I get home from work, I will post the exact spells I have chosen. And what passives work great with it.

It does sound interesting, but I am definitely curious as to what abilities you are using to pull this off on a templar. I main a temp and am unfamiliar with what you could be using. As others have stated here, if this is the style you would like to play, you should definitely look into Nightblade as a future character, as it offers a lot of utility this way. But if you can make it work with a templar then definitely please share, build diversity is fun and perfectly acceptable for 90% of the game's content.

I'm certain that Puncturing Sweeps and Radiant Glory heal only the caster, not the group, so you'd struggle to play as a team healer using those skills only. Bloody Altar got a unique change with DB - I had a fiddle with it on the PTS but didn't find it to give sufficient healing - it definitely didn't match up against the 'standard' heal-over-time abilities.

EDIT: Ah, seems I made the same mistake as @Brrrofski - I assumed you were talking about group healing from this bit:
... So every time I attack, it will heal myself or the group...

    Right, sorry, there's confusion.

You said.I always play a healer on other games, so chose a templar on this. I took this as meaning you wanted to be a healer on this. That's the confusion. I thought you wanted heal other people.

Sweeps alone will keep you alive form most things solo. Keep putting your run or Ritual down and you'll get 25% healing too.

    I love unconventional build.

I have this kind of build (i think it's quite unconventional):
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/3062528/#Comment_3062528
    (post #6)

With this build I can really hybrid healer-DPS.
I just adjust this build with resto staff as secondary and you can switch to malubeth instead of molag kena for more survivability.
You'll have tons of survivability for solo as well as small party and still do decent damage.

    Your healing option:
Party over time heal: vigor, extended ritual, mutagen, quick siphon
DPS based heal: quick siphon + bloodthirst, blood craze, puncturing sweep (opt.)
Emergency heal: mutagen, honor the dead, healing ward (opt.), remembrance (opt.)

    Other important skill:
Immoveable brute, radiant aura, restoring focus (opt.), flawless dawnbreaker, radiant magelight (opt.), radiant glory (opt. finisher)

    Pot: restore health+stam+immoveable
    Drink: stam&mag regen

I think up time (both damage and heal) is crucial for this kind build, that's why I try to get perma-immoveable.

Well, technically if you take the morph Ritual of Retribution you are doing damage and healing. But no other skills will deal damage AND heal (besides yourself) from the Templar trees. As others have said... pretty much only Magicka based NB can do that.

Ah, so that's what OP meant. In that case, it's not an unconventional build. Sweep spamming is cookie cutter.

Thanks for comments everyone. This game is so much more broad than any mmo I've played. I have done another build with more direct heals for groups. But the build I talked about, I find excellent for soloing.

Yeh, sweeps is great for soloing. Poke and never die, especially with your rune and Ritual down
